I agree with faceoff stats, its nearly impossible to draft centers with good faceoffs, I actually noticed that TWF wingers usually have good a faceoff stat so I just use them as my centers
Exactly the reason why I turn off waivers. EA needs to fix GM Brain already. Game has been out for 3 months and seen 2 patches already without touching GM Brain.

They have good theory behind it, but the execution is sorely lacking.

BLUE JACKETS END 2012-2013 CAMPAIGN WITH LOSS TO WILD
April 14, 2013

Despite an heroic run in which the Blue Jackets climbed their way all the way up to 7th in the Western Conference, the young Columbus team would fall back to earth, losing 9 of their last 10 games, capping it off with a pair of 2-1 losses to the Sharks and the Wild.

The lone victory over the final 10 games came against division powerhouse, the St. Louis Blues. The Blues dominated the first period, but goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky held the Blues scoreless despite a 20-2 shot advantage. The Blues would score early into the 2nd on a powerplay with Marc Savard tipping a point shot past Bobrovsky and the Blues would hold the lead for the remainder of the period.

On the first shift in the 3rd, St. Louis Blues defenseman Zdeno Chara ran Derek Dorsett from behind, knocking the winger out for the remainder of the season and earning Chara a 5 minute major and a game misconduct. The Blue Jackets would make the most of it, scoring 3 goals on the power play, including a Jack Johnson wrist shot that beat Jaroslav Halak just 6 seconds into the man-advantage. The Blue Jackets would go onto win the game 4-1 with an empty net goal by Cam Atkinson, marking the first win over St. Louis this season.

The Springfield Falcons, Columbus' AHL affiliate, has already clinched their division, so Blue Jackets fans will be tingling with anticipation to see how the Blue Jackets prospects do in the Calder Cup playoffs.

R.J. Umberger managed to hold on to win his first ever Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy with 36 goals this season, edging out 2011 first overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (35 goals) for the honour.

The Blue Jackets now look forward to the draft, where they hold three 1st round picks (#5 Columbus, #7 New York Rangers, and #12 Los Angeles) along with their own 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7ths picks. Since the New York Rangers missed the playoffs, the Blue Jackets must surrender the conditional 3rd round pick that was contingent on the Blue Shirts making the Stanley Cup Finals as part of the Rick Nash trade this summer.

Based on current International Scouting Services rankings, the Blue Jackets would end up with defenseman Ryan Pulock, center Hunter Shinkaruk, and defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen with their first round picks. Blue Jackets management won't reveal their cards yet, however, refusing to comment when asked about their draft strategy.

I did it! I won the 2013-14 season of GM Connected with the Ottawa Senators(random rosters), Alfie lead the playoffs in pts with 22 and he got a cup before he retired! Here's my team for the 2014-15 season:
Van Riemsdyk(88)-Crosby(95)-Gaborik(89)
Nyquist(82)-Seguin(84)-Semin(85)
-Lappiere(77)-Hansen(79)
Greening(76)-Konopka(72)-Moss(77)

Defense:
Martin(86)-Karlsson(89)
Sauer(83)-Gorges(84)
Stejskal(75)-Sanguinetti(76)

Goalie:
Lundqvist(91)
Svedberg(63)

I will be signing a decent LW in the off-season.

Traded Bobby Ryan and 2nd round pick to Jets for Bogosian, as Ryan didn't get his game going in 15-16 season. In 20 games having only 4 goals and 1 assist isn't enough for his 6,25M, 6 years contract.

Bogosian is player I have always wanted to my team. He is pretty much same kind of player as Larsson is, but hey if he gets any near Larsson's stats (15gp 6+14=20pts), he is deadly acquisition to my team.

Ilya Kovalchuk – Patrick Kane – Adam Henrique
Jussi Jokinen – Travis Zajac – Louis Leblanc
Kaspars Daugavins – Maxim Lapierre – T.J Hensick
Mike Hoeffel – Ryan Carter – Vladimir Zharkov
Mattias Tedenby

Keegan Lowe – Adam Larsson
Anton Volchenkov – Zach Bogosian
Jarred Tinordi – Dan Girardi
Ben Lovejoy

Jhonas Enroth
Antti Niemi

In my first year as the Jets Burmi didn't progress at all and I signed him to a $1.5M deal. He was playing 3rd line minutes though. I haven't quite figured out what makes prospects tick, but apparently giving them lots of AHL time will make them grow like crazy.

I honestly can't believe the Leafs won the Presidents Trophy. Reimer, at 79 OVR, posted a 92.9 SV% on the year!

Yeah, St. Louis lost. Chara with no points and a -4, Alfredsson with no points and a -5

BLUE JACKETS WELL-REPRESENTED AT NHL AWARDS
June 16, 2013

Several Columbus Blue Jackets made the trip to Las Vegas this weekend for the annual NHL Awards ceremony including rookie captain Ryan Murray, "Rocket" Richard winner R.J. Umberger, and star defenseman James Wisniewski.

Rookie captain Ryan Murray won the Calder Memorial Trophy, awarded for the rookie of the year, despite being the lowest scoring finalist. The other 2 finalists were Dougie Hamilton of the Boston Bruins and Chris Kreider of the New York Rangers. Media personalities we talked to said that, despite the relative lack of offense, they were thoroughly impressed with Ryan Murray's defensive game and his smart, simple, and effective play.

It was well known before the awards ceremony that R.J. Umberger had won his first ever NHL Award, but that didn't stop the big man from making an emotional speech thanking his family, teammates, management, and everyone else who helped him along the way. With the exception of Brian Burke, whom many speculate still has hard feelings towards him, everyone in the audience gave him a standing ovation as he left the stage.

James Wisniewski was the final Columbus award finalist of the evening, nominated for the Bill Masterton trophy for perseverance and dedication to the sport of hockey. The fiery defenseman looked as shocked as anyone when it was announced that he had won the award with St. Louis center Marc Savard and Philadelphia defenseman Chris Pronger, both of whom played after suffering significant concussions that nullified their seasons last year, standing beside him. Wisniewski finished 7th amongst defensemen in scoring with 13 goals and 43 points and also finished 7th in the league in the +/- category despite playing for a sub-.500 team.

"I'm so proud of these three fine men," GM Mackenzie stated. "Everyone on our team is extremely proud to call these guys teammates and we hope to build on what we were able to accomplish this season."

Yeah ... I don't know what happened.

I didn't really make goaltenders any better and most of the big goal scorers actually got better offensive attributes. Most defensemen got bumped up a bit, so that might have done it, I guess. The funny thing is that I actually dropped Umberger from EA's 84 OVR to 83 OVR (statistic-based attributes) ... He was just scoring like crazy w/ the 1.06 tuner. I don't know if it was coincidence or not, but when the 1.07 tuner came out, he went ice cold. I guess we'll see come next season.

We'll just call it the dead puck era v2.0

Also, it should be noted that Crosby, Stamkos, and Ovechkin all played 55 games or less due to injuries. Crosby had 24G, 31A in 45 games, Stamkos had 22G, 37A in 53 games, and Ovechkin had 31G, 50A in 55 games

I just had a 129 point season with Calgary in 2016-17. 108 for Drouin, 97 for Toews, and Datsyuk had 77, while our goalie Peter Gaborik had 63 wins a .940 SV% and a 1.65 GAA. It was ****ing awesome. At the trade deadline I got Keith and Datsyuk who were on the block had one year and I got them for scraps to spice up my PP. No one was a minus and Toews and Drouin had 62 and 60 +/-.

Playing as the Flyers now... in the first year all of our forwards had horrible seasons. Only 25 points for Simmonds, Giroux had less than 60 points IIRC, and no one else did very good. We ended up missing the playoffs. With the 4th overall pick I selected Shinkaruk (60 overall, 4.5 Y) I wanted Drouin but I had trouble moving from 7th to 2nd so I settled for trading for the 4th pick, where Shinkaruk was the BPA.

Here's the lineup I'll be rolling for the 2013-14 season:

Gagne (86, C) - Giroux (89, A) - Eberle (87)
Huberdeau (84) - Schenn (79) - Voracek (83)
Hartnell (83) - Talbot (82) - Simmonds (80)
Fedetenko (77) - Lapierre (77) - Zolnierczyk (77)

Coburn (85) - Ellerby (80)
Timonen (84, A) - Schenn (81)
Meszaros (85) - Gustafsson (78)

Bryz (83)
Hoivenen (I don't know if that's his name, but he's 82)

Names in bold were traded for, and names in italics were free agent signings.
***Also, I wanted to use Couturier as the 2nd line center, but despite playing in that spot last year and having 4.5 yellow stars, he is only 78 overall so I'm playing him in the AHL this year as I want to make the playoffs. It's either top-six or bust for Couturier and right now Schenn is better.

I drafted Drouin 3rd overall and he was 76 overall with really good offensive stats, I decided to send him back to the QMJHL for a year and he became a freaking a 86 overall with amazing offensive stats. I don't understand why EA would make him so good, Mackinnon is better he real life and he usually gets to 86 in 2-3 years :/

Alright people have asked this before but I need some advice on picking strategies. How do you know which strategy is right for you roster?

I'm just using the default strategy for Columbus, but in GM Connected, I usually take the default strategy and bump up forechecking and pinching.

As for what's the right strategy, that's a question with many different answers. Completely depends on your style of play, what players you have, and what teams you're facing.

Yeah I have him, in his first 3 years he's gotten 108, 98, 97 points (44, 51, 55 goals). Pretty crazy.

Well I got bored earlier today, and when I get bored I decide to experiment with things. Because of the ongoing lockout, I figured what better way to play GM mode than by injecting 30 European teams into the mix. The league structure is as follows:
Northern Conference (West)
  • Northwest Divison = Elitserien
  • Pacific Division = SM-Liiga
  • Central Division = 6th place regular season finisher from each of the five leagues.
Southern Conference (East)
  • Southeast Division = National League (Swiss)
  • Atlantic Division = Deutsche Eishockey Liga
  • Northeast Division = Extraliga Lednνho Hokeje
I randomly picked a team and so I will be playing as the Kloten Flyers of the NLA, playing in the southeast division. If I'm not feeling too lazy I'll even write up some reports.
Yay. Boredom.
