Nope, I try to scout everywhere for enough time to see their ratings but even when a guy looks good, afterwards he is under 60 overall with under 2 star potential :/ and my scouting is maxed out.
I don't know if I'd call him a gem yet, but I drafted a guy in the 5th round that was two white stars on the draft board, but ended up being 3 green stars after I selected him. Which was kind of odd considering he was a US skater and I scouted that group like crazy. 18 y/o 6'4 205lb LW PWF that started as a 61 overall. His name escapes me at the moment, but I believe it was in the 2017 draft.
I started him on my 3rd line in the AHL and he put up 20g and 15a in his first year. Went from a 61 to a 69.
He is on Ottawa's roster if you were to play a game in "play now", in BeAGM he is in the minors.
In my BeAGM, Wellwood was a FA and was 84 overall, so if you give him good playing time he should hit that quicker. Don't play prospects on the 3rd or 4th line as it will slow their progress.
Ryan Murray usually gets up to 80 overall after 1 year and eventually hits 90, I don't know what Voracek starts at but he is an 88 overall in my GM mode(year 7) and has been there for at least 3 years(when I got him).
If your picking top 3 in draft I recommend Mackinnon over Shinkurak, Shinkaruk starts off at a better overall but after 2 years Mackinnon passes him by a few overalls.
Really? I picked Shinkaruk in three separate BeAGMs and 3 years into each of them he's sitting from 89-91 OVR and MacKinnon is anywhere from 74-81 OVR. Shinkaruk's also won consecutive Rocket Richards, a Ted Lindsay, and Art Ross, a Lady Byng, and a Conn Smythe. And I sim everything. He is scary good in this game
Closest I've come is a 5th round pick from either 2012 or 2013. Picked him at 68 OVR, 3 star potential, nothing special. 2 years later and he's a 78 OVR who scored 62 goals in the AHL last season :| Don't know if that exactly counts (lol), but you can get some good talent in the 3rd round, particularly.
Drafted in I think the 5th round, maybe 6th. He was overall 72 with 3 and a half stars.
That makes him a gem as it is, but it gets better... He had around 90 puck control and passing and put up 91 points in his first AHL season. By his 3rd year he was overall 83.
I'll be starting up a new Detroit team. It'll be current rosters and try to keep it as realistic as possible. I will control Grand Rapids also. I will create all Detroit prospects. My next post will be updated ratings, may be a few days.
Just started my regular season gm connected. drafted shinkaruk morrissey and barkov. Shinkaruk is the only one on my team as 60overall. Debating if i should send him down or not, do they even play AHL games in gm connected? Cause I sent murray down last season and he didnt do ****.. so...

Tuevo played maybe 3 games in our GM league and then was sent back down. Increased froma 55 to 58 ovr. McNeil played maybe 3 games too and didn't increase at all (4.0 Star Potential)
Saad on the other hand, who played 50+ games on the Hawks 1st line, won the Calder, and scored almost 40 points didn't increase at all.

Its all random man.
I just hate how the scouting seems broken, and the whole development part is screwy, other than that i love nhl 13. Think im going to play shinkaruk on the first line and see how he does with brassard and ennis. See if i can get all of them to jump.
Chris Phillips started the scoring with a breakaway in the 1st period.
The Ottawa Senators got their season started on the right foot, as they beat the rival Montreal Canadiens 3-0. Chris Phillips was the surprise sniper in the 1st period, as he got a breakaway and stuffed it top shelf on Habs keeper Carey Price.
Price stopped 25 of 27 shots he faced, while Sens stopper Craig Anderson turned in an impressive 23 save shutout.
Phillips, Guillaume Latendresse, and Jakob Silfverberg found the net for Ottawa.
In the 1st, the Senators came out firing, as they recorded the first 5 shots of the period. Montreal nearly got the games first goal after Max Pacioretty whiffed on a shot, and the puck slid to an open Rene Bourque, but Anderson shut the door. With time winding down in the period, the Canadiens were caught on a bad line change. The puck rolled to an open lane, where Phillips swiped the puck and never looked back, going backhand-forehand on Price for the game's opening goal.
The 2nd frame didn't see as much action, but Latendresse got his first goal in an Ottawa Senators jersey. After Kyle Turris and Tomas Plekanec jostled for the puck and nobody could find it, Latendresse reached into the pile and got the puck. He waited, then wired a wrist shot on net. It bounced off Habs captain Brian Gionta and over Price's shoulder to give the Sens a 2-0 advantage.
The 3rd period saw Montreal take over in puck possesion, as they got 9 shots on net, all stopped by Anderson. The Sens failed to capitalize on a late powerplay after Habs forward Pacioretty took his second penalty of the game. With under a minute left, the Canadiens pulled Price for the extra attacker. Once again, a bad line change led to the puck rolling to an open lane. This time, offseason acquisition Marc Methot took the puck and rushed it up ice. He then sauced a perfect feed to rookie winger Jakob Silfverberg, who slapped home his first NHL goal, in his first regular season game. The Sens would hold on to preserve a 3-0 victory.

Damn, I've done 2 so far and in my main one Mackinnon(who I drafted) gets up to 88 overall and Shinkaruk maxed out at 84(on Edmonton). In the other I forgot their overalls but I know Mackinnon was better than Shinkaruk. I guess it just depends on who drafts the player, playing team, etc...
Anyone know or have experience successfully developing high potential, low OVR prospects? I recently drafted a 4.5* 57 OVR goalie. And he's from Europe, so I can't send him back to junior. Is it better to sign him and let him get like, 2 starts in the AHL behind Visentin? Or should I leave him unsigned for the season and hope he's usable next year?
I also drafted MacKinnon (currently 68 and playing in the CHL) and Shinkaruk (75, AHL), as well as an 4,5-star-goalie (Thibeau?) who after one season jumped to 81 and is my starter on my AHL team.
But if I had to recommend one single rookie it would either be Ryan Murray or Ryan Pulock. Especially Pulock is great fun to play with: skating and accelaration 92, slap shot power 97!

I'd suggest signing him, so he could perhaps get those few starts in AHL because of Injuries etc.
Hey guys, never even noticed this thread or anything, but even though Ive been on HFBoards for years, I googled Daniel Sylwander [cuz I have no idea who he is but he's doing WORK for me] to see who the hell he is and some results showed up here... anyways:
I made an expansion team... or I LIKE to say I bought the Columbus Blue Jackets and moved them to Vegas, as the Las Vegas Vipers, with a Denver Nuggets sorta color scheme...
I did a fantasy draft, figured I'd have fun seeing what happens if everyone is available. Salary cap on, two years in the future, and I made Nail a 5 star medium, just because...
Semin 86 - Kopitar 89 - Yakupov 92!
Hagelin 86 - Backes 83 - Callahan 86
Kreider 80 - Barkov 72 - Landeskog 80
Scheifele 74 - Talbot 78 - Sylwander 78
Murray 85 - Yandle 88
Rundblad 87 - Hamilton 83 [who's 6'3"... erggghhh]
Enstrom 82 - Reinhart 80
Lundqvist - Gibson
I actually had some better guys but cut em or traded em for picks to try to let the kids get more playing time and get better. Timmonen, Selanne and Jagr retired my first year, but not before Timo got the Norris, which was surprising. 2nd round playoff knockout. The next year I won the cup, beating the Jets in 7. Yandle won the norris last year and Kopitar the Hart and Ted Lindsay. Traded Visnovsky to free up some cash.
MALKIN is just sitting there in free agency with the season having begun... I've got 8.1 million left and he wants 10.9, and I COULD trade Talbot, Backes or Enstrom and bring someone up to free up the cash, but, Im afraid of not having any money to resign all my RFAs when they come calling... but I suppose I could ALWAYS trade Malkin for SOMETHING.
Prospects:
McIlrath
Pulkkinen
Mackinnon
William Karlsson
Kiril Kabanov
Galchenyuk
Faska
Teravainen
Andrighetto
Zweep
Ceresnak
Lehkonen
Mitja Robar [who's name is backwards, and cant be the same guy cuz he's 29...]
Kanzig
Torok
Kuptsov
Stromwall
Howorko
Dylan Corson
and some unknown fake guys or whatever.

If you put players in the wrong position will they still progress like normal?
I got Mackinnon(80) in the AHL and Galenchuck (sp)(85) and Granlund (85) as my centers already! I dont want to put Mackinnon on the 3rd line but can I put him on as a winger?
Just experienced the most stacked top 3 in a draft ever.
I keep track of the top 3 in every year btw.
So, first is a goalie, I go look at him after the next season has started, overall 73 with 5 stars. I think thats only the second time i've seen any drafted player being 5 stars... I was impressed.
The second pick? A goalie. 71 overall with 5 stars.... again.
3rd pick was a LW who was 19. Now usually an 18/19 year old is about 65-73 while 20's are about 78-81. (that early) . Well, this 19 is already overall 82 with 4 and a half star potential.. already playing in the NHL with 7 goals and 5 assists in 16 games..
I wish I would have got in on those picks..
Update on these 3. They were drafted in 2016, it's now 2022
1) Bryant Tyrell FLA, 97 Overall, 26 years old, 5 stars, 6'0 180 lbs, 175 wins in 363 games with 32 shutouts. 7 wins in the playoffs with 2 shutouts.
2) Will Bootland DET, 98 overall (I know...) 25 years old 5 stars, 6'1, 182 lbs, 226 wins in 394 games with 46 shutouts. 30 wins in the playoffs with 3 shutouts.
3) Stu Heshka BOS, 87 overall 4 and a half stars. 26 years old, 209lbs. 574 GP, 130G 307points. (He's a two way forward with weak-ish offensive stats, crazy good defensive ones though.) No playoff games due to Boston having no goaltending or other good players besides Lazar and Seguin.
We're doing ok win losses wise, but we're not producing goals enough. Relying to much on Howard who won't be able to keep it up all season unfortunately. Defense needs to help a bit with production and Datsyuk and Franzen need to get their game together. Solid defensively, but we need goals to win as well.
Not much bad to say about this team. Rookie goalie Mrazek is doing amazing. By far Billins and Almqvist are the best two players so far. Almqvist keeps this up he'll be put in the 2nd pairing and maybe even 1st PP unit. So far I'm happy with the Griffins.
Hey guys now that I'm more familiar with this years GM mode I was thinking of doing some posts on a new one, SO I wanted to ask you guys who should I choose:
