I don't think Elliott has been that bad lately, even though the team has played worse. He still jumps into the play and isn't afraid to shoot. I do worry that he looks extremely weak out there. When he's on a guy, it's like he's not even there. They shrug him off and do what they want.
Which is the biggest concern for him IMO. It was hoped that his IQ and vision out there would allow him to play that passive style defensively, but as of yet he hasn't been able to separate himself from the hundreds of other defensive prospects they've said that about over the years.
I hope he does, because he really showed something in those first few games that put him on another level offensively than most of those other failed offensive D prospects. That little something special.
My second biggest concern with him is keeping from being a one trick pony. It only took a few games for teams to pick up on his tendencies to completely shut him down offensively last season. I was hoping he would work his way through that with the Monsters this season, but 0 goals and 2 assists in 23 games is not a good start. He's essentially the lowest scoring player on the entire team, since the two other guys below him have only played 2 and 6 games respectively.
I still believe in Elliott might take him a bit longer then expected but i think he will be at least a 40 pt dman hoping for 50-60 though. how do you guys think sgarbossa's max potential in the NHL looks?
