Hamilton or Toronto2/Markham

Where would you rather see a new nhl team in Southern Ontario, in Hamilton or in the GTA (the most likely would be Markham)

Markham although I would put teams in a lot of different markets before Toronto. Simply put the only way I really see the second Toronto team is a if/when falling out between Rogers and Bell media groups and one allows the other rights to the second team as a part of a complicated purchase of the Leafs outright.

Hamilton won't get a team, why would Pegula buy the Sabres with that possability?

hamilton's going to split the southern ontario fanbase.

markham will impact the fanbase currently in between toronto and ottawa as well.

so purely a selfish vote towards hamilton.

That said, Copps isnt sufficient right now. Markham arena will be. Unless hamilton gets their act together very quickly, they arnt even in the discussion.

Sentimentally, Hamilton. It's pretty crazy they've been without a team this whole time because no one can pay off MLSE.

Economically, Toronto2/Markham.

Ideally, both, with Quebec, Seattle, Houston and Portland. (PHX can move to Salt Lake).

While I'd prefer Hamilton to get one between the two options (suck it Buffalo), Québec is really the priority here. I would strongly prefer Québec to get a team over either of these two locales.

Both. They'd both be goldmines and can contribute to revenue sharing.

Win/Win for everyone.

There's only 3 places in Canada right now that can support a new team....Quebec is the other.

I have no inside info but I'm convinced the only reason Bell and Rogers purchased the Leafs empire was so that one could get a new team in Markham or possibly Hamilton.

Hamilton, even though Markham would be closer to me. The rivalry between Hamilton and Toronto would be awesome.

Southern Ontario is really already split, Buffalo has a large number of fans in Niagara area and Detroit has large number of fans west of London.

If it is between Hamilton or Markham, I would rather see Hamilton. Give that town a boost, but I would rather see a team in Toronto proper over those two towns. is right next door to ACC available? 2 Bay street.

How many times I have to say this a Toronto2 (Markham) is not going to happen because MLSE. will pull out all the stops to make sure it dose not happen besides this so called arena in Markham is far from a done deal & might not get bulit .

Hamilton is in far better position to land an NHL. team that has been in years with Global Spectrum takking over running Copps Coliseum & with the loomming threat of another NHL. team in the GTA. MLSE. will be more than willing to help Hamilton get an NHL. team just to keep Markham out of the NHL. . Lets not forget an upgrade to Copps Coliseum can be done quite quickly & I would not put past the city that Hamilton has contractors on stand by or speed dail ready to go at a moments notice .

Also Hamilton is booming with investment with hotels & condos going up left & right not mention a new stadium & the possiblity of casino being bulit here an NHL. team will be iciing on the cake & make this city complete .

Markham is inherintely the better option. Two big reasons, one, Markham only has to go through one team, one that likely relinquished territorial rights for a certain time period. Secondly, it leaves the Western goldenhorse shoe region open for the next wave of expansion, a team in Hamilton would all but crush any chance of that.

There's plenty of other reasons as well, Markham will draw better from the GTA than Hamilton, GTA is big enough to get another team.

I'd like to see GTA get a team now, Waterloo Region/London in 25-30 years, Hamilton would be in the centre of 4 teams then (Currently Buffalo/Leafs, hopefully another one in the GTA and another in SW Ontario.

Hamilton would be the sentimental favourite, but it is Hamilton where support for any sports team is iffy at best. Markham would be a success.

Someone should build an arena in Cambridge to service southern Ontario (Kitchener-Waterloo, Hamilton, Guelph, Brantford, even London). Or somewhere along the 401 just out of reach of the Maple Leaf restrictive territory (which would be about somewhere directly west of Cambridge and south of Kitchener).
That would ultimately be the best location, serving the huge population of southern Ontario outside of Toronto, and also sufficiently distant from Buffalo not to ill-effect the Sabres.

Markham is probably the better option logistically (as well as with the brand new arena being built there), but I vote for Hamilton for purely selfish reasons. I live just under an hour away from Hamilton, and Markham would be close to a 2 hour drive

WHAT you are kidding right Markham a better location for NHL. team than Hamilton please Markham would not just have to go through one team they have to through MLSE. which owns just not the leafs but the raptors & marlies as well & thoses 2 teams right now are struggling at the gate & a NHL. team in Markham would hurt thoses teams & thats why MLSE. will do anything to make sure Markham (TO2) never gets an NHL. team if that arena get bulit & if that means supporting an NHL. team in Hamilton so be it . 2nd saying that an NHL. team in Markham would draw better than Hamilton is is completely false because NHL. team Hamilton would not just draw from the Hamilton area but southwestern Ontario , Niagara Region & even some parts of the GTA. which totals out be 8 million people which makes Hamilton the largest unserved NHL. market in North America not Markham .

Well.... depends. All things being equal, I think that Hamilton makes more sense to have an NHL franchise as, despite claims to their territory by Toronto and Buffalo, they are their own unique, independent market.

That being said, once Markham's new arena is finished, they'll have much better facilities than Hamilton. On top of that, think you could easily make the claim that they'd have more opportunities to make money than Hamilton, even if every single person that goes to Markham games are just Leafs fans wanting a cheaper NHL fix for the first two decades.

Think both would be good for the NHL, but see it as an either/or situation, if any, and certainly not both.

What if this happens Toronto has 2 NHL. teams & Hamilton has 2 football teams .

Toronto
Toronto 2 (Markham)
Maple Leafs

Hamilton
Hamilton Tiger Cats
Hamilton (NFL. Buffalo Bills )

You know somthing that would really stick it to Toronto especially Rogers communacations .

Personally I'd pick neither. Seriously how many more home games do the Leafs need?
