Good for him, he can stay in Russia with OV for all I care.

The only Russians I would really miss watching if they stayed are Malkin and Kovalchuk. I could care less about everyone else.

He's so deep in the mob that he'll be set for life. I remember those stories coming out of MTL along with his brother. Shaaaaady business.

Nothing of value is lost by him staying.

These were my exact thoughts earlier when I read this.

Datsyuk, malkin, kovalchuk, and mr. universe ilya bryzgalov. i want the flyers to continue to reap the benefits of that major contract for its entirety. plus although his attitude is bad, ovechkin is one of the most exciting players to watch. He does everything at 100mph, and relishes the physical part of the game.

I don't see how marginal European players staying in Europe is a bad thing?

Get the high end talent, save the bottom 6 roles for North American (preferably CHL) players. Nothing more boring than a player like Nokaleinen.

I'm no fan of Kostitsyn but if the owners are going to keep using a "lost season" as a threat then more players should call em on it.

This is a slightly hyperbolic take, isn't it? All he said was that he wanted a quick resolution one way or the other, and that he disliked a specific city in OH. Talk about a gross overreaction, imo.

This ^ and the fact that he is Russian. Is it a leap to think that they like playing close to home? The NHL is the most lucrative league around but it is no longer the only game available to international players. I think that Ovechkin and Kostitsyn are only voicing what many other Europeans and Russians are already thinking.

Not sure that owners are using a "lost season" as a threat, it`s always been quite the reality from day 1

How many players (that would be desired by teams in the NHL) are actually going to refuse to return when this whole thing is over?

Just a lot of noise...much like 99% of the lockout propaganda.

There`s been contributions from both sides that resemble hot air however, it appears that each and every day, there are players out there ( many of them barely average NHL`ers) who can`t stop providing fans with comments that lead us to believe they haven`t the faintest clue how to shut it, and they come across as being, well , terribly unintelligent/misinformed, they really aren`t doing themselves any favours.

A gross overreaction? On HF boards? I'm shocked!

It would be...except for the fact that SK has shown over his NHL history, a penchant for having a bad work ethic and a lack of passion (a nice way of putting it) for the game he gets paid a lot to play.

It's true, he didn't say he hated America or puppies, but my point was only that nobody should be surprised that Sergei doesn't care (or even hopes) that the season may be lost.

I'd be more surprised if he said he did care.
