Pros/Cons of a cancelled season?

What are some of the pros and cons of the season being cancelled?

For me...

Pros...

- Some of the unsigned 2003 draft picks become UFA's (likely)
- More time to get the right deal worked out (CBA)

Cons...

- May hurt NHL
- Hurts people depending on the NHL (restaurants, etc...)
- Some players may retire (Yzerman, etc...)

Another con to add is that the stanley cup will not be handed out this year to the Leafs or any other team for that matter.

Pros-European leagues get to see some of the best hockey players in the world.
Players like Stajan get a chance to excel at a lower level, it didn't hurt his developement.

Cons-No Stanley Cup being awarded.

Pros:
- Leafs get Jeff Carter (I'm kidding, I'm kidding). No seriously though it would be interesting to see what would happen with Crosby and all the unsigned draft picks.

Cons:
- Too many to mention. The big one though is that if it the season is cancelled now, we could very well go through all this again next year. If they go ahead with a chintz season this year, at least we know we can look forward to a full season next year and put this behind us.

Nothing would happen to Crosby, he's still only 17.

It would impact the 20 year old juniors from the 2003 draft.

I don't want to take the thread way off topic, but Crosby's status would be a grey area from a legal standpoint largely due to the fact his draft year would pass without any chance of being drafted.

Don't forget that the former owner of the Hamilton WHA franchise already offered Crosby a multi-million dollar contract last year and he turned it down.

Don't put too much stock in the fact that whats-his-name (drawn a blank- head of the QMJHL) was making a big deal about Crosby being under contract to his junior team. That contract isn't worth the paper it's written on. The lawyers could easily find a way out of it.

Pro-I can finally totally ignore the infuriating antics of Bettman and Goodenow so that I can concentrate on my studies...

Con-No hockey to help me take my mind off my studies for an evening...

Pro: Not having a ridiculous shortened season where whomever wins in the playoffs will not be taken seriously.

Con: Being the first league ever to cancel an entire season due to failing to reach an agreement.

Why are you speaking in past tense? The two fools are still alive, I know because the lockout is still going strong...

Pros:

-We'll be assured of a major retooling of the roster in Toronto

-We still have our 2005 and 2006 1st round picks, plus we kept Steen, Stajan, and Cola

-if prospect legal challenge is successful we'll be at the front of the line throwing bags of money at Crosby, Carter, and the rest...you'd have to think we'll get at least one or two high-profile young players in that situation.

Cons:

-No hockey for possibly another 12 months

-may have to do actual work at work, instead of posting on hockey messageboards all day

its gilles courteau.

why wouldn't the contract be worth the paper its written on?

crosby is tied to rimouski for 2 more years if there's no nhl.
