An "Inside the Crease" sub-forum for Goalies

I think we'd get a ton of support for this. I don't know where to post this for everyone to see, other than the place where it would be perfect for. A sub-forum under "The Rink". I see a handful of threads we could already move there. I even got a PM from someone who just felt uncomfortable posting such basic goalie questions. This would be a perfect spot for it. Please show your support if you'd like this.

Mods please consider, you won't be disappointed by the use it will get.

Thank you!

I agree, us Refs always spend a lot of time in the crease... I second this notion for a Ref's part

I'll ask about it. I also was thinking that we could get a volunteer to write about goalie equipment and playing FAQ's.

Before I open that can of worms, do you guys feel it's necessary to get a goalie subforum, or do you think we could try just a general goalie thread (like Beth's beginner thread) first?

Maybe we ought to have a thread for refs and coaches too.

I think a forum would be appropriate. As it is now, there's a lot of goalie threads popping up which non-goalies must sift through so it would make their navigations slightly easier.

BTW any writing needed, I have been a lifelong goalie

I'm not a fan of the 1 thread for something so popular. The problem is a ton of information gets lost in them. They get so big that nobody in their right mind is going to want to read 50+ pages to find a answer. Then you get the people that snap on ya for asking a question on page 87 that was answered on page 12. I'd love to just have a place for us Goalies to talk about gear, share our game experiences, post videos and pics, and help each other out to elevate our game.

There are a lot of sections on these boards. I do believe there should be a section for Refs and Goalies though. Not just threads. 2 very important roles that play a major part in Hockey and there is a lot to discuss. Especially on the biggest Hockey forums on the internet. I think you could take 10min of searching Goalie threads Jarick and fill up that new Goalie section in a heartbeat.

Thanks again for all your help.

Id be more than happy to answer questions in a FAQ thread.

My experience:
16 years as a goalie

Highest level of play:

AAA ice hokey until I turned 18.
Played 4 years of college roller hockey.

Been training youth goalies for 8 years.

FAQ thread in the Goalie section would be perfect.

I'm going to be real here. I want to stay on HFBoards, I want to continue to pay and sponsor. It's deserved. The people are great, the community is awesome and the mods care about keeping this a good place.

There is another Goalie site that has been around a very long time, which is the only reason they are so popular and have thousands of people online at a time. Problem is the site is ran by people who don't care one bit about the people. I've sent about 15 emails, even to the site owner & mods to fix their problems with registration. They just don't care because they are so big. Eventually I'll be activated but now I don't want to go there. I want to stay here and talk Hockey and Goalie talk. I'm just making suggestions so people in my shoes may want to do the same thing. HF proving this is great place not to only talk everyday Hockey, but a great place for Goalies new and old would keep me away from even having to go somewhere else for crazy Goalie info.

I'll let you know what they say.

Any volunteers for tips for beginners, equipment guides, learning to play, etc? Sounds like we have some great guys in here with experience.

just repeating that I would be more than happy to give learning to play advice to beginers.

As proven in another thread, I am clueless when it comes to equipment

Hank said he would cover equipment. He helped me with my gear, extremely knowledgable and I've already learned a ton the past 2 weeks.

While I'm a new Goalie, I've still been around the sport a very long time as a skater. I can help those new Goalies just starting out, as I know what it takes to get off to a good start. What you can and cannot get away with buying, and some Do's and Don'ts. Beez sounds like a vet and would be there for some solid advice too, obviously more than myself.

Hope this goes through with a sub-form or section. I'm so excited because I have so many things to talk about. It won't only make me better, but other Goalies too.

I may itch to play goalie but I'm a way better forward and I'm afraid of investing in the equipment. It sure is fun to read about though.

Been in your exact shoes....... you can always demo (rent) the expensive stuff. Well worth giving it a shot.

An idea was thrown out by the other mods:

What about a thread prefix for goalies? That way you can easily see the thread type. If we have enough of them, it might sway the globals that we could move them to a sub-forum.

I don't think we have any prefixes at all, which actually could be very helpful. Categories like:

- Refs
- Coaches
- Equipment
- Beginners

Etc.

Thoughts?

Thanks for taking the time to get the discussion rolling!

The Rink

---Beginners
---Coaches
---Refs
---Players

Is this what you're thinking? I hope they work with you guys on this and not push back. If there are Fantasy Football, Soccer and WWE sections. I would think this would be long overdue.

I was talking about prefixes for threads...like over in the "Trade Rumors" section, they have prefixes for "Rumor", "Waived", "Proposal", "Value Of", etc. They are multi colored prefixes that identify the type of thread and you can click on them to only show those threads. If you wanted you can bookmark that and only show the goalie threads.

Gotchya... yea sorry man that doesn't interest me at all. I would just assume one the biggest Hockey websites on the internet would have a section for Goalies and Refs. There are sections for Soccer, Fantasy Football, WWE among others? I don't mean to sound like a ***** Jarick, but it just doesn't make a lot of sense. Goalie and Refs are a huge part of the game and there are tons I assume that visit the site.

I think you know what most of us are looking for but if it can't be done, I guess something like this is better than nothing. I just wanted to help. No hard feelings.

I can definitely help as needed. Also I'm the rare breed of left-handed goaltender. May not sound different but harder to get the training and equipment is a bugger!

I want to do the prefix thing regardless. Will help organize threads if used.

There's nowhere near enough ref threads to merit a subforum though.

Still haven't heard back on the goalie sub.

Cool.. yeah my ignorance on the ref side of it, just have seen several people ask for it. Maybe if there was one, more would talk.

Thanks again for your help
