Too lazy to make a list, but Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes would be on it.

These are 5/6 of my top 10, going to need more time to fill out the rest of my list.

So much fun.

Funny you mention that. Aside from my GF's Wii, the last system I owned/played regularly was the original Playstation. When I bought that, I bought the new version of Rampage that was out for it. My best friend and I stayed up all night to beat it, and I believe it hit 200 levels and then just started over. I think we just looked at each other in disbelief, said "screw this", and went to sleep.

I remember beating Aztec Challenge.

You couldn't save, and it took forever.

At the end, it simply repeated with no victory screen or anything.

Not that I disagree with any of anyone's choice (because they're PERSONAL choices) but I don't understand how any of the silent protagonists can be top 10 character material. They literally say nothing/have no personality.

Just seems odd to me. Is it just a nostalgia connection?

I guess in a way, when you think about someone like Gordon Freeman, it does it in the sense of you being put directly into his shoes, and the things that he does (you do) makes up for not saying anything. The idea of actions speak louder than words.

But they're your actions. So you're really naming yourself as a top 10 favourite.

Wow, defiantly not a name I thought I'd see come up in one of these lists.

But he's Finley and he loves to fight.

There is so much win in this thread. Many of you have picked characters I forgot about, or just missed my list. Picking ten favorites when you have been gaming 30+ years is hard.

Cave Johnson was a great pick. Guy had me crying even though the story was dark.

Ozz, Supermullet, and any other old school game nerds (myself included)...have you guys played Double Dragon Neon yet?

Also this thread has inspired me to fire up the Ghost series and Gunstar Heroes. The latter I have criminally neglected over the years.

The only silent protagonist I have is Gordon Freeman. Nostalgic connection does play a big role in my selection (as I'm sure it does with everybody's characters in everybody's lists) but it's also the fact that he's just some scientist that does what he has to do to get **** done. No smart remarks, no boring conversations, everybody in the game likes Gordon Freeman because he plays the hero remarks. Just gets out there and does what he has to do. Kind of stems off from all the online games I play. I can't stand the people that run their mouths all game because literally 100% of the people that I've seen do that should not be bragging. The best players I've seen in online games are all very quiet and just do what they have to do win. A mixture of those 3 reasons is why he's at the top of my list not to mention it's my favorite FPS of all time.
