Come on guys, you got it all wrong. It has nothing to do with his contract or lack of passion.
The hockey gods saw his celebration and it offended them so much so that they bestowed upon Ovechkin, the power of the Frost Giants. In doing so, resulted in Absolute Zero temperature emitting from Ovechkin's hands and permanently freezing the ever so godly essence of Ovechkin's Mjolnir to that of a mere mortal.
That is why Ovechkin's abilities has been decreasing yearly. I'm surprised no one mentioned this superhuman feat.
Or maybe Crosby offered his own health to sap the powers of the Great 8
He looks terrible today. Just floating around in his own zone, waiting for the puck. Then he gets it and tries to skate past everybody and promptly loses it. What a liability out there.
Jari Kurri, 25
Mike Bossy, 25
Maurice Richard, 34 ( or 24, on a ppg basis)
Brett hull, 27
Pavel Bure, 22
Phil Esposito, 29
Luc Robitaille, 27
Bobby Hull, 30
Dino Ciccarelli, 22
Keith Tkachuk, 24
I woudn't say that makes much of a case either for goal-scorers peaking at 23, nor for there being the slightest reason why Ovechkin should be past his prime just because he's 26.
Not the best assessment. While statistically correct, the numbers dont tell the whole story.
Bossy had a 60+ goal season with 29, very close stats to his peak season.
Brett Hull didnt simply peak at 27, he just lost Adam Oates who made Neely score 50 in 50 afterwards.
Bure had back to back 58 and 59 goal seasons being 29 and 30, in the middle of the dead puck era, definitely more impressive than his 2 60 goals seasons years before it.
Phil Esposito had extremely good seasons with 32 and 33 and started declining only after that.
Robitaille had a goal outburst during the famous 92-93 season where everebodies stats went trough the roof and he had Gretzky on his side. Robitaille still had very good seasons with 35, staying over PPG during dead puck era that late in his career.
Bobby Hull scored 50 goals in his last NHL season before WHL being 33 and 77 goals in WHL being 36.
Ciccarelli had nearly had his best season with 27 and was on pace to repeat that the year after.
Keith Tkachuk entered the dead puck era with 25 and his stats dropped accordingly.
So no, Ovechkin is not simply following the track of the great goal scorers who peaked early.
Ovechkins wheels fell off for no reason we know about, no considerably injuries or something else.
The same thing happened with Green, Backstrom and Semin, so the reason must lay within the Washington system. Something happened there.. either they need to blow up the team because something is dead there or they stopped using some doping or whatever they used earlier. I dont know whats going on there, but every single star player they had went to **** statistically within only 3 years.
Is it possible this guys loses the captaincy anytime soon? I can't imagine it being helpful to have a guy with this sort of effort level leading a team.
I wish Ovechkin was traded to another team or something happens... to revitalize his career. I'm not a fan of Ovy, but I also don't like it when he isn't doing too well. It takes the fun out of rooting against him.

Starting to see Taylor Hall doing this more and more on the Oilers. It's concerning, because it's a bad habit to get in as a young player. The North-South speed game can be effective, but is easily rendered useless when attempted every time.

Thats funny you mentioned that because its the same thing I see with Hall too. He doesn't do it as often but I see him trying to beat 2 and 3 defenders with his in and out moves, when he's got two pretty good options in Eberle and RNH available. I think Hall just needs to slow it down a bit. When he does that he's generally pretty successful.
That's why the year after he had 56g 54a, and was easily the best player in the playoffs.
Then the year after that, he had 50g 59a, but missed a handful of games, and actually scored at a 120 point pace, his best season ever.
I said he's slowly starting to not play for it...want to keep going on about his stats for the next seasons please? I have a feeling you stopped after those 2 seasons in order to prove a point but I just don't see it, his point production has gradually been declining

according to some, being a winger means gliding is ok. zero defensie responsibilty required. and, do not expend an ounce of energy for anything that wouldn't make the highlight reel. puck battles & backchecking are for suckers.
