The skill of Manchester is light years ahead of the Phantoms. Some how they scrapped together two goals though.
Thats 'because the Kings have drafted very well for years, they have top skillled prospects offensive and defensive, blue chip players.
When Penner and Gagne go away after this year, some of those forwards will get their shot.

The Flyers thru bad trades and drafts just don't have a good prospect pool, not a deep one. If you take Couturier, Wellwood and Schenn away (when the lockout resumes) what's left ? What if one of the Flyers gets hurt?
THey don't even have blue chip prospects to use as bait for a trade.

Yep. The Phantoms have some guys that can fill out a bottom six or bottom pairing, but they are severely lacking in the skill department due to trading away many of their picks as you said. As for your last point, the cycle will continue and they'll hope to hit on another Matt Read in the college FA route.

If some of the proposed CBA changes go into effect they will be in big trouble when it will be tougher to sign elite players to cap friendly deals, guys like Schenn and Couturier get closer to free agency, and when young talented players on ELC deals are at a premium.

They'll be fine.

The main issue seems to be defense. Apart from Gustafsson they are running a bunch of career AHLers or reclamaton projects like Manning who is struggling mightily so far.

I'm not counting Bourdon who looks so much worse in the AHL than in the NHL and whose long term fitness is in jeopardy which is killer when a player depends so much on his physical edge.

If there was room with the big club and he can recover from his latest problems, the best thing for Bourdon would be to be in the NHL.

He won't log a lot of ice time so he can save his body. He'll be put around more talented players who make better plays. In a very real way, some players play better in the NHL because it "gets easier" due to who you are surrounded with, the crisper passing, less defensive lapses, better positioning, etc.

Well that wont happen until Bourdon stops getting concussions. The guy has had like 3-4 in the past year ish. Thats terrible.

Not me, as he was a NCAA goalie prior. Diamond in the rough is lucky.

A glimmer of hope in regards to Hovinen Tonight he was the third star of the game, saving 25 of 26 shots in a 5 - 1 win over Orlando. The Solar Bears seem to be one of the worst teams in the league, but still. Noebels and Kessel both scored, and Hostetter added an assist.

Niko played very very well tonight, and showed signs of passion postgame, which likely bought himself more playing time. The other Flyers guys, as Ryker pointed out, also played well, and overall they have as well lately. Hopefully Johnston gets back soon because in his 2 games, you could see his brilliant creativity and good skill. Trenton has the ability to roll 3+ lines of talent, with two potential NHL goalies. Their defense is certainly the question mark.

I agree with what Bill's said about Noebels lately, if he can fine tune some things, skating especially, he can be in the NHL within a couple seasons. He makes some ridiculous plays out there, and I really thought he'd struggle joining a professional league. Aside from an invisible November, he was on fire in Oct and so far in Dec.

slightly OT, but why isn't Leighton playing for the Phantoms? Was it the contract he signed? One-way?

Yeah, I think so. At least that's what people said when I asked the same question a couple of months ago

Thanks, I try and avoid it at all costs I was just thinking the last couple days, if the season is going to start abruptly, one of the players I'd like to already be worked...heavily. I was confident with Bryz before the lockout, but he may take awhile to get re-accustomed.

What exactly did you expect out of an undrafted free agent goalie in his rookie season? To be honest he's playing exactly how I expected. If Hovinen had even a half decent camp Heeter would have started in the ECHL.

With how bad Hovinen has looked from camp until now the Phantoms have no other options for their backup.

Nick Cousins now has 50pts in 35 games (15 goals and 35 assists) which is good for the 5th highest total in the OHL (he's currently tied with 2 others) in case anyone is interested. I haven't been able to see him play at all this year but based on his pt totals throughout the season it's seems as if he's been hot and cold.

Stolarz got his second win of the season for UNO on Saturday against Minnesota State. Made 27 saves on 28 shots.

Nothing he could do on that, looks like he was hung out to dry. On the other hand, he's got a .911 SV% and a 2.15 GAA so it seems like he is having a pretty solid year for a freshmen.

5 Tristan Jarry 3rd 04/29/95 L 6.01.5 178 Edmonton WHL
Of course with a lockout, there's no way of telling what spot we'd be picking at. But if we were able to make trades to have 2 1sts in the 10-15 range, what would you guys give up?

Of course I'd love to be able to draft Zadorov and Pulock, but if we weren't able to get one of them, I'd rather have Pulock.

Assuming no season how long between the draft order being being decided and the actual draft? Just curious cause they have to at least give people a couple days right? You know for trades etc.

outside of the top 5 or so I know very little about the rest of that group of prospects. Not going to even pretend to know. But as I have said before we need to draft defense early and often.
yes I know our history. But this organization has ZERO top end defensive propects.
