Phantoms captain Holmstrom done for season

http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-phil...815&feedID=695

Quote:
Adirondack Phantoms captain Ben Holmstrom will miss four to six months after undergoing surgery to reconstruct his ACL, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren.

The timeline for recovery effectively ends the season for the 25-year-old center, who injured his knee on Dec. 8 against the Syracuse Crunch.

Sucks big time.
Guy could've been a decent #4 center for the Flyers down the road.
This kind of injury often kills your skating and speed, which were his main assets in the NHL.

Scary to think of what the Phantoms would be without Schenn and Couturier. Tied for last in points and second last in goals for.

I would have thought that Murray with his big league exp could have bumped them in the standings a bit, but maybe he's lost his edge

Phantoms aren't the only ones who got a talent boost this season.

This.

The embarassment of the Phantoms this season shows just how bad our prospect pool is right now. We can't afford to trade away any more picks for the next few years at this point for NHL bandaids.

Yeah, I am rooting for him. Seems like, in addition to possibly being a good 4th line addition, but bringing some leadership as well. Shame about the injury.

I truly don't care what the Phantoms record looks like at season's end. I want Murray to turn at least 2 or Manning/Lauridsen/MAB/Gus into suitable full-time NHL defensemen. I'd also like to see Schenn, Couturier, Wellwood, Rinaldo and Harry Z continue to improve defensively under him...Schenn especially.

Niko with the start tonight, Noebels and Kessel already with assists, Titans up 2-0 after 1.

It seems they're starting him against the weaker teams, but at least he's in the net.

Probably, but whatever builds confidence and keeps him warm IMO. The organization needs to regain confidence in him again before pressing to have him play more minutes. He let in 2 so far, neither sounded like his fault. Still up 3-2. Winning a close game could do wonders for him.

Cardiac affiliates. Phantoms win 4-3 in a shootout after blowing a lead. Titans win 6-3 after allowing Evansville to tie it at 3.

Can't forget that Jason Akeson had two goals in last night's game. He's really stepped up his game since coming back from Trenton and I think it's fair to say that he's established himself as a potential player for the Flyers down the road. It's clear that he's worked on his overall game and should be mentioned as one of the guys who is helping carry this team along with Schenn and Couturier. I'm really liking the signing more and more. I'm definitely rooting for Akeson to eventually make it to the big club.

Good to see Akeson get some offense going last night. His first goal was a really nice shot, went top shelf on Tokarski.

GOAL! Sean Couturier gets a breakout. The play was broken up, but Couturier gathers the puck and pinballs it from behind the line! 1-0 ADK

Nice to see Couts rack up the points.

Will have 25 points (8 goals 17 assists) in 26 games if he doesn't score the rest of this game. Great to see him be near a PPG in the AHL. His offense will come in the NHL in due time.

Schenn has 29 points (12 goals 17 assists) in 26 games, which doesn't include tonight's game.
