The Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Danny Kristo and defenseman Brendon Nash to the Minnesota Wild for forward Raphael Bussieres and goaltender Johan Gustafsson.
We are happy to add Bussieres and Gustafsson to our organization. Bussieres is a longterm project but we are confident that he has all the tools to reach the NHL. As for Gustafsson, he is a solid young goaltender who could be ready to step in with the Hamilton Bulldogs next season. We were very thin when it comes to depth in goals and it made a lot of sense to acquire him.
Kristo will benefit from a change of scenery. While he is very talented, he has some attitude problems and he will have to mature if he wants to make the step in the NHL in a couple years. As for Nash, he was a solid veteran in Hamilton but with all the youth we have, it was difficult to use him properly. He will also deserve a chance in the NHL at some point and it was obvious to us that he wouldn’t get this chance in Montreal. We wish both players all the best in their new organization.
We could very well be done for the trade deadline. With that being said, Tomas Kaberle is still on waivers and we are open to trade discussions.
We like Kristo and with Hackett playing so well, we deemed Gustafsson expendable.

Vancouver makes a huge splash as the deadline approaches
Mark Streit comes to Vancouver in a final hour trade.
Vancouver 1st 2013
"We felt like we had a Top-5-10 defensive core in the league previously with a crop of great blueliners in Edler, Bieksa, Hammer, Garrison, Ballard and Tanev. We are serious about the cup and in Streit we saw a chance to bring in a #1 Dman to a team stocked with talent already. We're going to test him in a pairing with Alex Edler, Streit's offensive ability could be ideal ala an Edler-Ehrhoff pairing we previously used. Edler is capable of playing right-side, as he logged most of his minutes there for us last season. We know both players prefer the left-side more, so if split them we run 3 pairings that are all capable of logging huge minutes.
Keith Ballard IS a Top-4 defenseman in this league but his past few years it became clear he just wasn't playing to his full ability on our team. We wish him the best in a renewed role on Long Island. The loss of a 1st hurts, but we have Florida's 2nd 2013 to offset the loss.
The Ottawa Senators have traded defenseman Sergei Gonchar to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Marc-Andre Bergeron and Keith Aulie.
"We'd like to thank Sergei for his time here in Ottawa. He is a very classy player and we wanted to give him one last shot at a Cup. Going forward, we feel Keith will really help our blue line, and develop in to a top four defenseman. Marc-Andre will take over Sergei's roster spot for the remainder of the year while Keith will be assigned to Binghamton."
