Agree with getting rid of the 4 stripes - that just makes me think of the post-fisherman rebrand. I'd get rid of either the logo on front or the shoulder one. Not sure which, but having both is redundant. Other than that, it looks great! It's basically what you want in a 3rd jersey. It says Brooklyn prominently but yet still looks like an Islander jersey.
Yeah, I just lazily kept it from the other design with the shoulder patches. Actually, the stripes are only on there because I used that jersey as my base template.
Cowboys play in Arlington not Dallas, Jets and Giants play in NJ not NY, and they don't have the area of representation on thier logos.
I realize that the Isles logo is an outline of LI, but there is no need to change it. I make the argument they are already there. The blue part of the "I" represents Jamaica Bay. The left side of which is Brooklyn. And no, the "I" does not point at Uniondale.
I'm from Rochester, and an Islanders fan. So I'd like to think we would at least once bust out an Americans throwback for a game against the Rangers. It was the Americans coach/GM Red Dutton who cursed the Rangers back in 1946.
Or, a less crazy Amerks theme:
This is sexy. Is the logo off-kilter on purpose? I like that aspect as well.
a good 3rd jersey does not include any of the following, in my opinion.
front numbers, lettering instead of a crest, the color black.
AMEN!

The New York/Brooklyn Americans really had more of a word-mark than a logo. For a more "modern" version, I was stealing the look of the Rochester Americans.
The shield was what they used from 1959-1969. I made it orange and blue instead of red (And went to four stars for Cup based reasons)

Arlington isn't a whole different world like Brooklyn is. All the isles should do is replace ISLANDERS with BROOKLYN on the 3rd jersey and call it a day.
The bridge logo is cartoony. Nice on some apparel, maybe, heck no on a jersey.
Gimmicky is what sells for a 3rd jersey. Ya don't want the same old same old boring similar style, ya need something unique. Although the Brooklyn script is nice too.
Would love to see the bridge logo on a black jersey but like the BROOKLYN script on blue or grey.
No successful history??? They had two ABA titles with one of the true icons of the game, Dr. J and have had two finals appearances In the lad decade. .
Wow two titles in a second rate, long defunct league where they had a player who went on to make a bigger name for himself with the 76ers.
And they got creamed in the finals two years in a row about a decade ago.
man, they've really lowered the bar on "successful" I guess.

And when we get as big as the Cowboys, Jets & Giants, perhaps we can ignore the fact that we are no longer playing in Nassau County.
Not embracing NYC is not the right decision for this franchise.
Also, the Cowboys & Jets/Giants are embracing the better part of their area, not the worse.

I didn't get a lot of feedback, was the opinion unanimous that mine sucked? I'm wondering because I design jerseys occasionally as a hobby and I wanted to try a new concept to see if it worked

Not that it sucked, but did not resemble an Islanders jersey in any way. You would get more of a response from non-isles fans with that one. Try again with orange and blue and/or appropriate logo and we wont write it off so quickly. I get the nets thing, but I don't think Isles fans could care less about the NBA team other then the building they share. I know I don't.
Also, third jerseys change all the time to boost sales. So expect constant tweaking no matter what we do.
In all honesty, we should go into Brooklyn with the worst looking "Brooklyn" third jersey of all time. Because people will buy it just because we're new. THEN you make a really sweet one because all those fans will buy ANOTHER jersey because the new one is awesome and the last one was kinda bland.
Also, I think it would be cool to don a Brooklyn Americans throw back against the Rangers at some point. I know it has nothing to do with OUR history...
... but it was THEIR owner who put the curse the Rangers, and that was awesome.
Do you have a major degree in marketing? Judging by the way you think you must be the guy responsible for the fisherman, orange and current Islander 3rd jerseys. I suppose you would like to see the Islanders change their jersey/logo every season?

Why I love these threads.....the Yankees should change to horizontal stripes.
How about the Giants add an "NJ" to their logo, maybe make the "I" in the shape of the Garden State?
The football teams situation is so different. Adding NJ to their logo/team name/whatever has little financial impact for the teams. NJ Football fans were likely Jets/Giants fans before they moved in anyway.
The Islanders would be foolish not to embrace the fact that come 2015, they will be an NHL franchise based in NYC. For all intents & purposes a large market team. Sure there's plenty of people in Nassau/Suffolk, but this isn't even about a # of people. It's New York City, and Long Island will never compare. Hell, we're actually going to have media besides Newsday, Islanders TV & Islanderspointblank going to our games now. Imagine that, picking up the NY Post and there's actually an article about the Isles. Imagine the Isles actually win the Stanley Cup one year. The parade isn't going to be down Hempstead Turnpike ending up in the concrete oasis that is the NVMC parking lot. It will be either in Manhattan or through Brooklyn.
The organization absolutely should alter the logo to show where they actually play.

It's tragic, but that's how the world works. I'm simply a realist.
And if I were in charge, we'd wear two jerseys: Home and Road. No tweaking. No third. No nothing. We can sell all kinds of crazy third jerseys as "fashion" jerseys that we'd never actually wear on the ice.
So, no, I had nothing to do with the fisherman, any third jerseys etc.

Jets and Giants don't have geographical NY City's 5 boros or NY state on their logo. If they did it would look stupid playing in NJ without NJ included on that logo.
NYI's logo will look stupid in 2015 without Brooklyn included if they keep the current logo. It's a simple tweak to add Brooklyn and Queens to make it geographical LI to the current logo especially since they're keeping the name Islanders.
