They should always make a seperate list for goaltenders that takes goalie stats into consideration.
Guys like Wade Belak struggled a long time to pass goalie Felix Potvin's 8 assist total as you can see from the list he has 11 assists in 168 games, playing both forward and defense ..

As you so correctly point out Felix's real value came in Saves and Wins being a goalie, so why is he on the list ???.

Maybe the better question is not why is Felix the Cat on the list, but Belak the Sluggo tarnishing the All-Time Leafs list or even better in the NHL for that matter ???.

Hmmmm I'm gonna go right off the top of my head for this. And I've only been watching them since I was 4 so that was 1990. All of these names will be familiar, and is in no particular order.

Dougie Gilmour - Awesome playmaker, I was disapointed to learn about the trouble he got into in St. Louis, but it doesn't change what he did with the Leafs.

Wendel Clark - Legendary wrist shot, and one of the toughest SOB's in the league. Got his autograph and shook his hand 2 years ago and he's still jacked.

Felix Potvin - He was a great goalie for those playoff runs back in the early 90's. He sucked after he left Toronto, would have liked to see him do better.

Cujo - I loved the guy in Edmonton, so seeing him in Toronto was even better. Nice guy but was still pretty pissed at him when he bolted to Detroit.

Steve "stumpy" Thomas - Clutch player, hard worker, and team guy. What's not to like? Wish he was still a leaf.

Gary Roberts - When healthy he can be dominant. Playoff leadership he showed in 2002 cemented my love for this man.

Ken Baumgartner - Great Goon!

Tie Domi - Even better Goon. Can pop some goals and always works his bag off.

Joe Niewendyk - I know we've only had him one season, but he's just the man! When he's healthy he's a gamebreaker. His play against Ottawa last year in the playoffs was unreal. He's my favourite current Leaf.

Daver Andreychuk - Scored in crazy ways, and was just a solid player.

That is my point exaclty. This list does not include position. Someone who has no clue who Felix Potvin is may wind up believing a putz like Belak is a better player than Potvin based on the numbers you see here.

Potvin had no goals and 8 assists in 369 games for Toronto, Belak "the Sluggo" (you have to get over that clown) has 6 goals and 11 assists in 168 games for Toronto...because position is ignored it is very hard to tell who had a greater impact on the team.

The title of the list you gave is "All-time roster for the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL)". This title does not imply that all of the players on this list are superstars, it is simply a list that records the names of every person who played for the Leafs.

I never asked why Felix Potvin is on the list nor do I question why Wade Belak is on the list. Both players have played for the Leafs. My question focuses on the statistics and given with the players name and how these statistics represent the players shown on the list. A perfect list in my opinion would show the players position with stats relevant to the position that that player played.

1 - Wendel Clark - The only reason to watch the leafs between '85-'91
2 - Mats Sundin - One of the most under-appreciated leafs ever
3 - Allan Bester - Fond memories of him getting pelted with 50 shots/night
4 - Tie Domi - Hell, I named my cat Domi
5 - Danny Markov - Definition of blood & guts - Still remember him laughing after taking a puck in the face, telling the Flyers bench that they weren't gonna win
6 - Alyn McCauley - Liked him in the WJC, couldn't catch a break as a leaf
7 - Tom Fergus - Great leader, heavy wrister, awesome on the PK
8 - Rick Vaive - First Leaf to get 50, again, one of the few bright lights of the 80's
9 - Tomas Kaberle - Enough defending this guy from Sluggo, how can he not make the list
10 - Sylvain Lefevbre - Unbeleivably steady and reliable in his brief time

Honorable mention - John MacIntyre - I don't know how many here remember him, but I was always convinced he could be a 2nd line sparkplug. Moved on after a couple of years, went to LA and did just about the same.

minus Yushkevich, add Sergei Berezin

Forgot about Owen Nolan, he's my second favourite current NHL player but I don't think he's done enough as a Leaf to warrant him top-10 on a Leafs list

1) Wendel Clark-I don't know if anyone remembers this, but the goal that epitomized his leaf career came in game 6 against the Sens in 2000 in his third stint, when he scored the insurance marker in front of the net. Great Leaf.

2) Dougie-If we had him in 2003, we beat the Flyers. Guaranteed.

3) Sundin- Mr. Leaf

4) Steve Thomas- Big goal after big goal.

5) Dave Andreychuk- Mr. Clutch

6) Gary Roberts

7) Owen Nolan-Love his style of play

8) Tucker- ditto

9) Leetch- After only 3 months....

10) Eddie

10)

two things. 1) the post said favortie Leaf, not best Leaf. 2) if you think his play in Europe is has any indication of the kind of player he is in the NHL then check the tapes.

Are you upset that the Montreal Canadians will be leaving Montreal just like the Expos? Your AMERICAN owner will relocate you cause there is no local support.

The Leafs? Well were rolling in dough, yes our CANADIAN owners are doing just fine thank you very much. We got our own channel and everything. It's just too much fun to be a Leaf fan.

I guess that's why you're here, to see what fun actually is. Hockey lives here on the Leaf board.
