It's really following a similar script so far...
They're just skipping the part where they hold 15 hour sessions with one another

Fehr >>>> NBPA's Executive Director. If NHL doesn't offer the right deal for Fehr bros, no matter what the timeline suggests, it will extend.

The actual NBA lockout started well before the season. That's one thing I just noticed.

Does anyone know how the NBA's final deal for the players compares to the initial deal the league offered them at the onset of the lockout?

Seems like the owners were always around 50/50. I don't see an offer before from the owners that didn't start at 50/50. Owners wanted some sort of hard cap but I think they settled on revenue sharing.

Nevermind, at one point the owners offered 47%.

The players did dissolve the union at one point and started to sue for antitrust. Soon after they came together.

I'd say the PA is testing the league. They wait and wait for the NHL to make an offer, then when they do, the PA responds with proposals that dont even work off the NHLs deal. That really seems like they are playing a game, since those proposals could have been made previously if they werent going to be working off the NHLs proposal.

Testing indeed. This innocent victim facade is bull ****.
Fehr's gameplan is to play chicken....nothing else. He's not a master negotiator like some make him out to be. He will hold the league hostage to get what he wants......just like he did in MLB and had a strike before a world series......that should tell you what the man is about. He will screw the league the fans and even the players to get what he wants because he is looking out for the business of "Fehr" first and formost.

Fehr was brought in just for this deal..... does anybody really think he will just make a good deal for the players and leave.......he won't make a deal unless the players force his hand or fire him....it's just not him, the league cancelling a season to him is just what he wanted.....so he can do his thing.....posture.

We haven't had any marathon negotiation sessions or no mediation yet.

Meetings have only lasted a few hours at most and those were over non core issues.

When they talk economics, the meetings are over in an hour or less.

So despite the Proskauer-Rose connection, the NBA didn't have the Fehr factor like Bettman has to deal with (I'm sure Stern sympathizes).

I think the NBAPA got sucked into the league's desired framework.

Not sure if this is viewable in outside Canada. I hope it is.

Interesting to see Dregers comments on thinking the players will crack first

Using the Iginla example really puts it in perspective for some players on the possibility of a missing a full season. He will have lost $15 million over the course of his sixteen year career due to these lockouts.

I'll try hold on:

Lebrun:
-pulling the proposal doesn't mean much. if a deal is done in the next week or so, much of the stuff in the NHL proposal will still be in it

Bob was asked who blinks first:
-said perhaps thats the problem
-owners are banking on players blinking first
-players banking on certain owners applying pressure on bettman
-said players believe owners have thier cap(from last lockout) so they wouldn't want to skip a whole season. so those owners would put the pressure on bettman
-said both sides are more vulnerable now than in 2004
-"but i don't think that "B-Linkage" if you're gonna call it, won't occur for atleast another month or six weeks, until the season is on the line, so i think we're going into a deep freeze here unless somebody does blink."

Dreger:
-says the players will blink first
-uses Iginla as an example. he lost 7plus million dollars in '04 and would lose another 7plus mill for a total of around 15mill
-says the moderates on the PA side will speak up at some point

I have been saying that all along that is the best hope to end this lockout is to get players especially ones going thru this a 2nd time to speak up, hopefully a couple big name players speak up Maybe Miller started it today and that overcomes the egos involved

A deal is so close, and yet the 2 idiots leading both sides are more interested in a "let's see whose **** is bigger" contest. They are letting that contest get in the way of what really matters, getting a deal done, and not damaging a sport on the rise. It's obvious to me, not one of these buffoons care about the game one bit. Both of these 2 should be canned once the ink is dry on a new CBA.

Interesting as well. In lindens last game in the nhl after the canucks lost 7-1 to the flames, iginla brought the entire flames team back on to the ice to shake Trevor's hand. After the game he complimented linden on his honest career but also what he did off the ice for the pa and help end the last lockout. I hope there are more like him and less like Ron Rainsey.

Well atleast the owners finally got sick of playing this game. This should either end this garbage lockout or end the season.

I much prefer that to false hope.

Some of see the owners as playing a script. The point that gets lost is why they're doing it.
