Agreed - It's as if Mr. Roy is flipping the bird at all the fans tweeting negative things about him/the PA/Players.

Not exactly the best way to win a PR battle, but that could no longer matter to them - maybe the players are standing on principle, not money (as a previous poster alluded to). Still, awkward, and probably out of frustration and most certainly childish.

Still a dope car I'll probably never drive, so I guess Derek Roy 1, Us 0. Woo.

Lol wow. This is the problem letting 22 year olds be involved in things that are way out of their league. Most of these guys don't know much and they shouldn't be participating this heavily. Idiots.

I think it's hilarious that players are going to be throwing away a full season again. And at the end of the day, linkage will likely still be there, and the total pot of HRR will be shrinking because of the prolonged lockout. Geniuses on both sides.

Players want their full contracts honored but don't want to play a full season.

Essentially, they want the same amount of money, for less work.

Everything about this situation is just so pathetic...

How could Roy be so out of touch?

NHL offer you a certain amount of money and other things that entice you to play for them
Don't like their offer? You are free to play in the KHL, SEL, AHL, or any of the other leagues. Not good enough? Not lucrative? To dangerous? Well thats your problem but if you want to play in the NHL you play by our terms.
Players agree to these terms. Then complain when the owners, who have the right to do w/e the **** they want, decide they wanna change something.

The only way the NHL owners are going to crack is if the marquee players wont return and play in another league, much like a private business losing well qualified employees due to unfavourable working conditions. Unless this occurs the owners will get their way. The only thing the players have to decide is whether they want to lose part or a whole season to get a rollback.

I think the Simmons article put it best in terms of financials.

Also by leaving the NHL they dont really lose anything internationally. Radulov was suspended by Nashville and played in the Olympics in 2010.

Nobody said they were smart but you'd think they understand that by following the party line of "we just want to play" they'd have some understanding of it.

Player : "But I signed a contract for 5M per season"

Owner : "Really sorry but we can only pay you 4.4M this season"

Player : "I don't think that's fair at all"

Owner : "We understand but chances are really good you'll be back over 5M in 2-3 years tops"

Player : "Not fair...... I'm going over to play in Europe"

Owner : "How much will you be making over there?"

Player : 500K plus a free apartment and smart car"

Owner : "So you're willing to take a 90% pay cut instead of a 12.3% pay cut.... why? "

Player : "Over in Europe they don't treat their players like animals"

Owner :

When did they say they wouldn't play a full season for their full contracts?

Everyone understands that if games are lost this year, the players will not be payed for games they don't play. In other words, there is no scenario in which they players will actually come out ahead in this lockout. At best (and this seems impossible now) they would get their full contracts if there is a full 2012-2013 season.

Players will get a prorated portion of their pay for 2012-2013 if there is a partial season.

This is going to be an ugly, ugly battle.

Very unfortunate for us the battleground is the NHL and not one of those other leagues. I personally couldn't careless about the NFL or NBA. Doesn't resonate with me, nor are they the type of leagues I'd be interested in watching.

I've been adamant about losing this season, but I'm not sure how long this lockout could realistically go. If the players don't break.. It could go on for quite some time.
Very unfortunate for us but even more unfortunate for the players who are the pawns in this game and will pay the heaviest price. They are just Fehrs excuse to continue his anti cap crusade .

very true. then when another lockout happens in 6 years or so, the posters here who have their lips firmly entrenched on Fehrs butt will be chiming in saying how he had his own agenda much like how they are saying how Goodenow was in bed with the league despite missing a year of hockey.

That's about 25% of the season. 470M the players will never see again.
