True. Good luck to the schedule-maker. But at least the dates are 'reserved' in the respective arenas and they could program the scheduling software to maintain the majority of the games (ie. the schedule would be division/conference heavy and need to balance the remaining games).

Its all quickly becoming water-under-the-bridge, though.

The biggest question: What's the end-game here? Owners aren't allowed to speak, so I can't ask em. As for the players, there's not one player that has been able to answer this question for me. But it's a question they better start asking their union boss. They're fighting over a reduction of $1.6 billion over six years. Well, these players are going to lose more than that by not playing THIS YEAR alone, and as was proven during the last lockout, players always make out better in the long run. There's a reason many players have seen their salaries skyrocket, have seen the average NHL salary rise by a $1 million in the last eight years.
So does any of this make any sense?
Where does this end?
If Donald Fehr is not willing to go immediately to a 50-50 split in a $3.3 billion business, he's not going to do so when revenues take a gigantic hit. And considering both the union and the league are basing proposals on revenue growth, those proposals are both going to have to come off the table as revenues plummet.
We're officially at the ugly stage with no end in sight. If Fehr goes after the cap, which does appear to be his intention, we're all going to be in for a long, painful hiatus.
Some ugly thoughts from Michael Russo.

Unbelievable! I wish it hadn't come to this. I'm really disappointed there won't be hockey any time soon. Players have no idea what Fehr is doing to their game.

Bettman certainly won't be tired when this is over.

He made a ridiculous offer that set things back 8 years exactly between the PA and the owners.

He then makes a bend-over proposal. And walks out of the room after 10 minutes when the PA tries to counter.

The first NHL proposal was the exact same deal that was in place last year. The players said they liked it the way it was and the NHL said ok fine, but you guys take the 43% this time and we get the 57%

shockingly enough the players didn't like it so much anymore.

and now, the PA dragged their butts so this is what happens.

I think he is spot on though. My guess is this has been Fehr's plan all along. Guess what Don this isn't the MLB the only thing you're doing is ****ing you're constituants to further your agenda. To bad that most of them are too stupid to see it.

Hope these scatterbrains are happy now. At least they don't have to endure a November full of slave like conditions where they ride first class charters to five star hotels and play a game they love. What a relief!

Never try bargaining up a man with no money to spend. That's what the PA is doing. They're welcome to waste their time.

I would love to hear the Players end game for this. I have often asked it myself and have yet to hear an answer.

The players are being used. The PA is willing to cost a few hundred jobs and millions in lost salaries to fight a battle they cannot possibly win ?

Fehr is doing his members a disservice, if he just wants to fight something he doesn't believe in at the expense of their salaries and careers.

Uh oh....

@andystrickland: Sources say #NHL pulled latest offer from the table partly because not every owner liked the deal. Several clubs weren't on board

This is pretty sweet though. I am moving to a new location where I can just take the train to the arena. So glad I can take advantage of that soon.

If that was the case wouldn't it have pulled off earlier and not at the set deadline? What if the PA would have accepted it way back when? Makes no sense.

Because the owners can save face now and both sides are 'happy' with no deal.

NHL can say they "tried" with the offer, even though they weren't all on board, and improve their PR image.

BS...... no way the proposal is even tabled without majority owner consent.

Willing to bet however that all 700 players weren't informed all the details of the PA proposals while the owner proposals were simply deemed "draconian" by Fehr.
