Gorges is worth more to the Habs than other fanbase, hence it would take an overpayment to pry him out of Montreal. An overpayment no team would be willing to make.
Volchenkov's an absolute warrior, and could make a good mentor for Emelin, but he's got a lot of mileage on that body playing the style he does. Gorges is more dependable to play at this point, and better at moving the puck out of danger zones. I wouldn't trade a well-liked leader, at a positional of need for a similar replacement.
On Gorges, I don't think he's got the physical impact nor the offensive game to be considered a top-2 D-man, he's more of a solid top-4 IMO, and I love Gorges game but top-2 is a little far fetched.
That said, habs are short on reliable defensive defensman so Habs would need to be getting another top-4 Dman in return, which makes it a lateral and useless move.
That said, if Colorado is insane enough to offer Duchene for Gorges, Habs just can't pass that up.
Future captain and one of the best defensive d-men in the league. He's not going anywhere for anything less than a massive overpayment.
Gorges is nowhere near one of the best defensive dmen in the league. Not even close.

Please, if Subban is a top 2 than Gorges sure is. The guy is the only reason Subban wasn't embarrassed on a nightly basis.

That was the best assessment of Gorges so far in this thread, but he might have undersold him a little bit. I would definitely call Gorges a poor man's no.2 defenseman, he is more than capable of getting the job done on the first pairing defensively but would probably be on the second pairing if we're talking about a powerhouse defense. As for Subban, he can handle his defensive responsibilities more than just fine on his own.

Well the opinion on this board says he's at least in the top 10 [ 8th ] best defensive defenseman in the league as voted by in an ongoing poll but i guess you know better.

BS. Subban is a #1. He is #1 D in Montreal. He would also be #1 on approximately half the teams in the league. His partner is Josh Gorges. That makes him a #2. Now you can argue how effective he is in that role, but that is the position he plays in Montreal. Same with Desharnais being the #1 C in Montreal last season. Plekanec is the better player, but little DD played in the #1 C position with the two #1 wingers on the #1 line.
And embarassed. All players get embarassed out there. It's a game of errors and lots of errors occur in every play. Subban made more errors in the first half than in the second. He was actually very effective at his role of #1 D in the second half. Montreal was going nowhere but individually, he was good. And if he wasn't, no one would be interested in trading for him. There are 29 GMs that wish they could pry him out of Montreal. I'm sure there are teams in Europe that wish he would come play for them this lockout season also.
He would cost way to much!!! will more than likely be the next C and also took Gallagher in his home just to help him make the adjustment prior to the lockout, just one of the examples why fans love the guy
