Quebec City Part VII: Si J'avais les ailes d'un ange
Lets hope those who have the $$$ to bring the team to Quebec take a page out of the TNSE playbook and say nothing publicly....No interviews no statements nothing! That is how the NHL likes to do business behind closed doors and out of the media. Time to close the bunker doors and work this out in the shadows!!!

In Le Soleil article of today talking about the Jamison deal coming to end, they say they tried to speak with Mayor Labaume and Pierre-Karl Peladeau (potential owner) but were unable to reach them. So from that part...so far so good.
Jets STH here...... looks like the Nordique will rise again soon... I really hope so I recall watching the Jets & Nordiques play in the WHA... Real Cloutier... Marc Tardiff...... names from the past
Has construction already started on the new arena?

I tough there werent supposed to work on the new arena at this time of the year. Yet they have been working on the site all day. Anybody know what they are currently doing on the site?

So is there an expectation that players, coaches and office personnel all speak french in QC? I ask because Tippett and Maloney are some of the best at what they do. Would be a shame to let them go.
If Québec gets a team next year, no matter if it's the Coyotes or not, and whoever who would be their coach at the time of the relocalization, it's pretty much a given that Patrick Roy would be named coach or GM.
It's just too much of a perfect fit. He have been the Remparts coach for so long so he knows the city, how the deal with the medias. It's a good way to retains the Remparts fans as he'd be the team heritage. It creates instant rivalry with the Canadiens and technically he have been a member of the former Nordiques via the Avalanches.
I hope they'd keep a few members of the Coyotes staff though as they do look competent.
Yeah, let's replace a great coach by a bad one just because he knows the city and its media... That's ludicrous! Patrick Roy is a bad coach, PKP would be stupid to hire him. Michel Goulet as GM, I could see if Maloney doesn't want to come, but Patrick Roy as coach, no thanks.
Hey, if Seattle gets the team, they can take Roy, I won't complain

okay let's hear your arguments as to why Patrick Roy is a bad coach

I think it's not a matter of Roy being a bad coach (or any anything coach), it's just that.... let's face it.... they'd essentially let go of a well-renowned coach for the sole reason that he doesn't speak French. It wouldn't be like when the Jets didn't retain Ramsay, as he hadn't really done anything. Tippett essentially turned the team entirely around from the turnover from Gretzky to him. For all the monolingual English players in the league, or Euros that don't speak French, it's not a very good message to send about where the team's priorities are.
If the Yotes move to Quebec City and the Nords then let Tippett go, more than a couple teams will be knocking each over to try to grab him and laughing at the Nordiques all the way.
I know the language factor is even more pronounced in Quebec City as opposed to even Montreal, but the lion's share of the players and coaches of the NHL don't really care. You'll be seeing lots of Visnovsky and Lindros situations pop up before long if the need to communicate with the fans and media outshines actual performance, as callous as that may be to say.

Year after year, the Remparts are among the favourites and they always choke. They won in 2006, but they did it because they had one of the best junior players of the last 20 years. Roy's teams have underachieved for years and his demeanour is not one of a pro coach. He might impress juniors, but NHLers won't care about his antics, even if he is a legend. His feud with Richard Martel was entertaining, but that's junior stuff. Roy is a junior coach, nothing more. I've been to a few Tigres games against the Rempart in Victoriaville and watching Roy behind a bench is pathetic. Always yelling, never seems in control. That **** won't fly in the NHL, players will tune him out VERY quickly. The guy is way to emotional to adapt. I respect and admire his passion, but I don't think he has what it takes to be a pro coach.
Sure, he'd be a pretty good marketing ploy, but you don't win games with a marketing ploy. The Coyotes have one of the best coach in the business, I hope we give him a chance if we get the team. Roy was a great goalie, but a good coach he isn't. Maybe we should offer Dale Hunter the job though, he is an ex-Nordique and his team always performs. Heck, he would still be in the NHL if he had wanted to. Didn't want to work with the primadona in Washington, can't say I can blame him.

Most of the sure thing prospect that played in Qc under performed. Grigorenko who was supposed to be a top 2 prospect, Angelo esposito, Anthony Duclair and we can go on and on.
That's exactly how many game coached every single NHL coach had at some point.
1 memorial cup is more than many coach will ever have in their coaching life. He also has a couple Conn Smyth and 4 Stanley cups. Not as a coach of course, but he knows what it takes to win. Plus he's a super star in Quebec city.
The Remparts make sure to have a good year every year. Some teams go all out to "buy" impact players only to have very bad seasons afterwards. It's harder to win with a team that stays competitive year after year. Gatineau is the other team that has that mentality. Year in year out they're competitive.
If Michel Therrien can coach in the NHL, I think anyone can. Really.
