Regardless of how poorly he is playing, the Oilers will never trade Smyth.
The guy bleeds copper and blue and specifically requested a trade home from Los Angeles. If they were to deal him, it would be a PR disaster that would set the team back to Prongergate in regards to signing free agents.
Oh, I'm not saying I wouldn't even mind having that extra depth, and I would love to see Whitney succeed, but the value on both of those guys is sadly negative.

Oilers fans need to relax.
Really? A PR disaster from trading an old 36 year old whose best days are behind him, playing the worst hockey in his life, recently all huffy about being a healthy scratch? From an organization who has traded more hall of famers and all stars too long to list? I understand nostalgia but Smyth is not and never has been an untouchable.
Do the oilers want to build a Cup contender or not?

How does trading Smyth help us become a Cup contender? We do not trade him. Maybe he spends more time in the press box, but trading him is of no use.

Did I say he was untouchable?
I said they would never trade him. He requested a trade from the eventual Cup winner to go home for family reasons. If they dealt him, he would more likely retire than report to his new team.
The guy is a veteran. He's disappointed that he's not playing up to the expectations of the new coach. He'll rebound or he'll sit out.
