With the 97th overall pick the Anaheim Ducks select Kevin Roy

Welcome!

http://journalstar.com/sports/stars-...082dfcd47.html
Quote:
Roy is ranked as the No. 78 eligible North American skater by Central Scouting, and is projected to be selected anywhere from late in the second round to the later rounds. In part because some scouts question whether Roy is big enough to play in the NHL, he’ll likely be chosen after several other USHL players.
Central Scouting’s David Gregory told NHL.com he believes Roy (5-foot-9, 168 pounds) could offer great value to a team looking for a diamond in the rough during the middle rounds.

Another midget. Let's hope that he grows a bit. If we can get two more inches and twenty more pounds on him ...

He will be going to Brown according to the article. I didn't even know that Brown had a hockey team. But at least he should be smart if he can get into Brown.

He's the next MSL...that's what everyone says about their diminutive talent nuggets, right?

Kevin Roy on Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/Roy_K15

I watched Kevin live 40+ times last season so if you guys have any questions, please let me know. I run a blog devoted to the team (Lincoln Stars-USHL) that Roy played for last season. Very special player. Most talented forward I've ever seen at the USHL level in all my years of watching hockey. Great hands. Shattered just about every Stars record this season, including a lot of USHL Tier 1 records.

Here's my blog: http://www.lincolnstarsblog.com/

Can he use Corey Perry's ministick on the shoot out?

That's pretty cool he has his gloves in the Hockey Hall of Fame

Is he still growing, or is he going to be lucky to be as large as MSL?

Thanks for the link and info

Requisite jokes:

So much for Murray wanting to improve "too small, too soft."

Maybe he thought it was a fantasy draft and he was getting Derek Roy to shore up #2 C.

I actually like it, though. Swinging for the fences. Uber talented little guys may not pan out, but when they do that's how you get a draft steal.

Well, on the plus side, we would have a weapon when it comes to shootouts in the future! Teemu will eventually retire (yes, we're all saddened by that truth) and it's nice to have that type of scorer. I don't see Tampa Bay complaining a lot about St. Louis and he's only 5'8".

It will be interesting to see where Kevin Roy ends up playing hockey next season. *He has a verbal*commitment*to Brown University, but that could change. *If the Ducks' management thinks he'd be better off playing major junior hockey next season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), they may suggest that. *The Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL courted Kevin Roy last December....will they do it again? *There has also been a lot of rumors floating around that Kevin might walk away from the verbal*commitment*to Brown and could play college hockey somewhere else. *The reigning USHL Player of the Year has a number of options.

Does anyone know what his height is? NHL Network had him at 5'9". HockeyDB has him at 5'10".

Yes, but if he's really a long shot because of his size the degree from Brown is going to be a lot more valuable to him in life.

assuming he gets his degree from Brown it's more than likely to take 4 years which means he hasn't signed with the Ducks and goes UFA.

Terrible pick.

This guy has skills, that's for sure. Reminds me of another short guy drafted out of the USHL last year (Kyle Rau) and he just had a great season in NCAA. Roy seems like a project, but his skill set definitely intrigues me.

How is his skating, and do you know anything about his character? He has obvious skills, but if he's a good skater with no character problems he seems like a steal in the 4th. Thanks!

Hopefully they close that loophole on the next CBA.

For college players, the team has a certain period (several months) after the player graduates to offer him an entry-level contract, even though it has been 4 years since drafting the player. I think that the cut-off date is 01 July.
