The article by Terry Jones looks at all the draft picks the Oilers made in 2010 and how almost all of them are with the Barons and all have a shot to make it to the NHL.
I liked this quote from MacGregor:
Quote:
“If you get two guys who make it to the NHL, that’s a real good draft,” said MacGregor. “Three is exceptional. Any more beyond that is off the charts.”
Interesting look at each guy from that draft (well, other than Hall).
Been talking about it in a few threads, biggest key now is to see these guys make that next step. So far we really haven't had too many of the highly touted guys dominate the AHL. Would like to see a couple of Pitlick, Hamilton, and Martindale join PRV in being legit threats every night.
meh, it looks good so far, but Hall is a giveme at #1, hard to even count. AFter that non of the guys have made the NHL. Marincin and Pitlik look great, but, let wait until they actually turn out.
How is Martindale above Pitlick, and for that matter even Hamilton. Both have showed the ability to contribute, albeit very little in respect to Hamilton, to a winning team at a higher level.
I can see Pitlick being the one making the jump first. They will break him in 2013/14 season as bottom six checker. Hamilton and Mastindale should spend this and next season in the AHL. Marincin should too, possibly being the injury call up next season.
The crazy thing is, despite how good that draft was, 2011 might be just as good, if not better
Maybe, but I doubt it. Klefa and RNH are definitely NHLers, but after that there aren't any sure things. Musil and Gernat are promising, but years away from the big show. Both of the goalies we picked haven't shown a thing since draft day. I like Reider a lot and really hope he can be an Eberle-light option for the third line in a couple years, but that's a ways down the road. As for Simpson? Who knows?
I think if I were to make a list of the 2011 picks' likelihood to play in the NHL right now, I'd go with something like this:
Klefbom
Musil
Reider
Gernat
Simpson
Ewanyk
Tuohima/Perhonen
Anyway, lots of potential, but I dunno that it tops 2010.

I'd put Musil right up with Klefbom. Not the same upside, but he WILL play in the NHL
Pitlick, Hamilton, and Bunz are ahead of Martindale, without a question. It's debatable who will make the NHL first Marincin or Pitlick. Like what I've seen of Davidson, seems to improve each game.

Reider looks good, but the Oilers can ill afford to have another small forward, he'll most likely end up being traded. He'll not crack the top 6 and he's not big enough to play the bottom 6, dreaming to think he's part of the Oilers future.

IMO Pitlick is the safest bet of the bunch to carve out an NHL career for himself. After that I'd say that Marincin isn't far behind, then you have a drop off to Martindale and Hamilton. Bunz will be an interesting guy to watch develop in Stockton. I wonder if he'll better Dubnyk's numbers like Roy did?

Martin Marincin is showing that he was better than the stats suggested when he was playing in PG. If this whole season gets canceled I predict our top 4 to be Smid/Petry Schultz/Marincin I'm very happy with Marincin so far but we've gotta get him on the beefcake or something. Get that boy upto 215-220 for next season. BEEFCAKE!
for me the future of the oiler lay in the 2010 and 2011 drafts
the 2011 draft picks could make a dent quicker. Klefbom is nhl ready and most western scout suggest that Musil maybe able to make the jump quicker.
I know from the 2011 draft a lot of people are high on Toby R. I am not worried about his size as I am about his ability to put up with the pro game. I know a few european teams are looking at him for future reasons and I think a year or two in Europe would be perfect for him
these two drafts are also the ammo I use to shoot down ideas on the trade board that the oilers are in desperate need of D.
Oscar Klefbom
David Musil
Martin Marincin
with darkhorse
Dillon Simpson
Martin Gernat
Jeremie Blain
Brandon Davidson
The oilers should be all about proper development of their younger players or have the tool set, but need help building the tool kit to hold all the tool

A lot of optimism in the article, but it seems like a bit of a puff piece.
If 3 of the players listed have long NHL careers I'll be surprised.
I think that there's a good chance that Hall, Bunz, Pitlick and Marincin all have long NHL careers, i think that Bunz is the most underrated of the 2010 class (although goalies are really difficult to project). That's 4 right there.
There is an outside chance that Martindale or Hamilton join that group although the more i watch Hamilton, the more i see career AHLer.
There is obviously no definitive answer right now; nevertheless, OKC will have 7 of their 11 picks from 2010 all playing in the AHL this season. At this point in development, that is already very impressive.
