City Council needs to stop looking at this like it's some grant or subsidy and start looking at whether or not they see it as a worthwhile investment for the City of Edmonton. Oh wait, they did that! They agree it will make them money!

Then what the **** are we talking about?!
Well we were talking because Katz wanted a yearly subsidy that was outside the original framework. Now they apparently want to get back to October 2011.

Biggest concern is that Katz doesn't make more demands once this deal is done.

Crunching that subsidy against the numbers City Council believes to be accurate, the City still stands to make money from building the Arena.

I said it then: Katz wants a subsidy as long term insurance, then don't make him sign a 30 year agreement. Sign him to a 10 year lease. No longer a need for a subsidy. Yay!

Just tell Katz he doesn't need to run the arena if he's that scared of revenues dropping that much.

But anything resembling the Northlands deal, where revenue is cannibalized by an entity that's not Rexall Sports, is not acceptable to him either.

Caterina: "I was under the impression that you knew what the framework was." Wants to know why it took them a year to ask for changes.

Paula Simons ‏@Paulatics
Karvellas calls Caterina's question unfair. Caterina says, snidely, that perhaps it was only 11 months. #yegarena #yegcc

lol.

Yes. Because all out-of-towners' are yokels that drive big diesel trucks.

Is Councillor Gibbons from Ontario?

Well it is a good question, not everyone in and around Edmonton drives compacts. We've got lots of 3/4 and 1 tons here as well.

That's kind of insulting to people like me. If Gibbons prefers, us people from Fort Mac and Llyod can bring our diesel trucks to Calgary.

Well let's see, I've been to Edmonton as recently as 2010, have been there many times in the last 20 years, have friends there who *gasp* have diesel trucks. Then there's the fact that even here on Maui there are a lot of people with 3/4 and 1 ton diesels.

Wow, Mandel doesn't even want to continue negotiations? Can the city council drag their feet on this nonsense any longer than they are? Seriously, this thing needs to get built. Hell, didn't Edmonton tell the league that they would build a new arena when it was needed when the NHL helped save their ass in the 90's?

He doesn't live in Edmonton and I insulted no-one.

I drive up North every two weeks and I can guarantee you that the vast majority of vehicles are cars and small SUV's. The only big diesel trucks you see are work trucks and people rarely drive those 200 miles to Edmonton.

Gibbons is full of it.

My friend that drives a 1 ton diesel is a farmer, another one of my friends who owns a diesel works in the oil fields, there are many people here on Maui that drive 3/4 and 1 tons as grocery getters and not just work vehicles. My point is that some people will inevitable drive diesels as their primary or only vehicle so they should be accounted for.

Yeah, there are more Escalades and Suburbans than diesel trucks here I'd say for personal vehicles. Generally if you see a truck around here it's 50/50 that it's gonna have a company logo or buggy whip on it.

Which are big vehicles in their own rites and as big as diesel trucks unless they have wide boxes/are dually/are 4 door.

I'm sure you do know a few people, BBO.

I have lived up North and around Edmonton for 40 years. There are very few huge pickups that drive around Edmonton. The one's that do stick out like a sore thumb.

Heck, the vast majority of farmers don't even own Diesels unless you are talking about tandem grain trucks.

Farmers burn purple gas.

Gibbons is being facetious.

Those new pictures that are up, stink.

Just upgrade the old one for a fraction instead of that.

Oh I'm not saying a lot of people up here don't drive big vehicles. But to somewhat safely navigate the deathtrap that is highway 63 in the winter, I'm driving something that has a bit of traction or taking a bus. If I go to Edmonton and drive in the winter, I leave my Grand Prix at my dad's house and take his Dodge Ram.

No...Just no. It will cost almost the same to renovate Rexall, we'd lose seats, and it would be just as much as a crap factory as it is now. Not to mention Detroit is getting their new stadium. So I believe Rexall will now be the oldest building in the league.
