greetings Canes fans, I've thought a cool idea for this draft would be to do a mock draft by going through each team forum in order of there pick in the first round and poll who they would take. whoever gets the most votes gets picked. and is taken off the list for the next team. the Avs fans choose Jones, Panthers Mackinnon, Lightning Drouin and Preds took Barkov. I'm hoping that by going through each team's forum I would get a better idea of who there team might select since those fans should know the most about there teams, so given the circumstances who would Carolina select 5th overall?

Avalanche: Seth Jones
Panthers: Nathan Mackinnon
Lightning: Jonathon Drouin
Predators: Aleksander Barkov
after I go through all 30 picks of the first round I will post the results in the prospect section.

I'd choose the latter based on the wording. "Who does Carolina Select 5th Overall?" sounds more like what we think/know will happen rather than what we choose.
Voted Monahan, only because Carolina is going to need an ELC on the roster for cost reasons and I think that is going to end up being our pick. I want Nichushkin, but doubt we take the gamble. We're not exactly in position to risk it.
The real interesting question is... What if someone trades up to 4 to take Nich and we have a choice of Mon or Drouin/Barkov, then who's our choice...
I'd go Barkov all day.
Drouin is worst case scenario for Canes, they cannot pass on him but he is the exact type of player the Canes do not need. As much as it pains me, if they were forced into Drouin they should immediately start shopping Skinner for the best young D they could get.

That is a trade I would not be interested in unless NYR was willing to throw in an additional piece like their 1st in 2014, Brady Skjei, or Michael Sauer.
Hey guys, Oilers fan coming in peace. I live in the Ottawa area and would love for Monahan to be in Oilers silk one day. So my question to you is. What would it take to trade up other than any of the fab five which leaves:
Ganger
7th ovrl
Hemsky
any other prospect not named klefbom,marincin or Gernat
Also, is anyone else thinking that Curtis Lazar is on our radar? 5'10, fiesty, a goal scorer, and is hanging around 10 or so. Scored 38 in the WHL this year.

At 35th? Unquestionably. At 5th? No chance. There are a ton of those guys in the 15th to 20th range that are going to slide into the 2nd round and Lazar could be one of them. Lots of questions about his hockey sense and passing ability.

You are basically asking us to move down for nothing. You took all the plyers we would be interested in off the board and offered us two players who dont fill our needs and arent part of your core going forward. You have to give to get.
So it looks like many would like to draft Nich. who is probably ready to step in but voted Monahan because of how the question was asked. I'm not so sure now that JR wont grab Nich if he can. I sure hope he does.
It has been mentioned by some that due to what was perceived as poor moves in the past will effect his decisions now. That doesn't sound like a smart way of making their choices to me but I guess it might be the case. Really difficult to begin to speculate on what may happen based on that conference with JR and Muller.
I don't know what alternatives they have concerning goaltending, but personally I don't care much for Dan Ellis. Looks like they may just settle for him as is and concentrate on other areas of need tho.
