The combination of storm surging, high tide schedule and heavy winds will make it a record breaker. Remove any of the 3 and this would not be nearly the same threat.

Areas of Downtown New York, Long Island and Southern New Jersey are going to be without power and flooding for at least a few days.

Towards the end of July we had a tornado touch down in Elmira where I live. It's absolutely amazing to me that no one was seriously hurt or killed. We had huge trees just pulled right out of the ground sometimes pulling entire blocks of sidewalk with them. Tons and tons of destruction and property damage. Literally hundreds of trees down-sometimes thrown across streets/avenues. Considering that a hurricane is much more massive scale I would advise people to take this very seriously.

Depending on where you live, tomorrow should still be relatively fine until mid afternoon. Still don't recommend driving in it (as leaves/trees/things will start to be coming down) but if it's necessary tomorrow morning is your best option.

Expect landfall Monday night between 8PM-Midnight. Still have quirks to work out.

Edit: Also just to note: Serious serious flooding issues with coastal and river-side communities. Please... please keep any eye on your area. I would not be surprised to see areas completely INUNDATED with FEET of water well into the coast in certain areas of NJ and NY. Yes, it's that serious.

My thoughts are a Toms River landfall around 10PM, 85mph hurricane still strengthening. Someone in our area will be seeing 100mph gust. This isn't something to just brush off.

Yikes.

I live in the pocono mountains about 1.5 hours west of NYC and it's not even raining here yet.

But everything is shutting down.

Middle of nowhere NJ. My house is in the woods, tons of old trees. Just went for a drive and there is a big one down in the road already.

Nice.

Spent the evening playing Super SF IV and Marvel 3 with the Mrs.

The rules are as follows:

I have to be under the influence and my buttons have to be mapped so the make no sense. In SF I take a health handicap, but Marvel's simple mode (and the fact that I don't play Marvel competitively) makes it easy for my wife to distribute beatings.

Storm is still like 200 miles south of NYC, and my Facebook feed of Long Island residents is already being overflooded with pictures of downed trees.

Nothing around my house that I know of yet.
