@chucktodd: Christie just said the story about NJrejecting non-union utility workers was not true.

Thats settled, then?

From my perspective, he's a ****** away from the ice.

I'm indifferent to him most of the time, which is more than you can say about most Rangers. I really liked that he gave Marty respect after winning the Vezina, and to be honest I've never seen him be an ass off the ice. Maybe this is my goalie bias kicking in, but if there's a player I respect on that roster, it's him.

It's amazing how situations like this bring out the absolute best and absolute worst out of humanity at the same time.

Within a minute, I witnessed a guy giving a women the coat off of his back so she could sleep a little bit warmer tonight.... immediately followed by two guys nearly coming to blows over how long one of them was using an electrical socket to charge his phone.

Incredible.

It is also not the "poor" section of SI, that is up by the ferry terminal.
I assumed it couldn't possibly be nearly as bad as described, but I don't doubt that crime has soared in the areas that are without power. There are plenty of people not getting the help they need.

Times like these are a test of character, you can see immediately who has it and who doesn't. We all like to think we would pass, but clearly plenty of us wouldn't.

How would he know about the Alabama crew getting turned away or not? He knows general info, not every specific instance. I highly doubt those crews drove all the way there to simply make up the story and say "oh well" and drive back.

I had my own run in with the union there at a tradeshow when I wanted to wheel a display case from the loading dock to my taxi to get to the airport. Union guys standing there doing nothing but sprung into action to stop me from touching my own items saying a dock loader had to move those items. I waited a half hour for a guy to pick up a 15 lb case with rollers onto a skid and the another guy with his forklift and move it 30 feet to the curb where I put it in a taxi.

Talk about insanity.

No, because that's a strawman tweet.

"New Jersey" was never in question. It was the Union(s) itself that told the non-Union crews that they had to "join the Union" if they wanted to help.

It is. They're still finding bodies. As is often the case, we must depend on the foreign media for a more truthful depiction of what's occurring. Here's one such article. I know the DM isnt exactly, ummmm.... the pinnacle of journalism, but the pictures alone are worth 1000 words.

It's all a vast anti-Union conspiracy! Those Bama' folk are as brilliant as they are crafty and deceptive!!

Seriously though, New Jersey represents the zenith of Union power in this nation. In some cases, they're more powerful than the politicians.

The Kings Care Foundation is matching Red Cross donations through November 15 if donations are made through their form.

https://www.formstack.com/forms/?1319171-ElUmjrTanw

Make them pay for June right? I'm sure all you Devils fans can do a great thing for New Jersey/New York here.

Hope you guys get power back soon and things can at least start getting better.

Which one?

Still nice of him to do this. Then again, when you have as much money as he does(like all the other highly-OVERPAID players), it's easy to have "money to burn/waste" on the side.

That's nice to hear from the Kings considering I haven't heard of any NHL teams doing this yet through all this lockout crap.

Am I the only one not bothered as much by Lundqvist as the Stay Puft Luongomallow man? I hate Lundqvist as a Ranger like Rockie said. Longopads I hate period. Not because of the Marty/Olympics thing either. I've hated this stuffed robot looking idiot ever since he came on the scene with the Isles in the late 90s.

Guys quick help needed. Buddy gave us a generator. Filled to lid with 3 gallons. Run time should be 12 hours. Only ran about two hours before it died and was empty. Anyone have any suggestions or help?!

Btw, hope everyone is holding up ok. No power here on Rockaway for another 4 days

You have the choke lever to "run" right?

You should also find the wattage the generator produces and compare it to how much you are trying to run off it. You might be trying to run too much at once.

Would be more fitting if Lundqvist auctioned off his pads instead.

My brother was running one this week on 3 gallons and it would only run for about 3 hours and change powering a fridge, a light, and a TV. I dont know much about these things but I hear they're gas suckers .

The more you increase the cost of shipping the less goes to charity.

Drove today from about Clinton Township to Flemington to Bridgewater/Somerville and back to C.T., and it's amazing how few people have power.

People were ravaging a Wegmens and buying candles, batteries, flashlights, water, in a purposeful frenzy. It was very sad, and this was 4.5 days without power. Really put it into perspective for me how easily I think society could break down with a major disaster/crisis. What was very nice was that Wegmens had all these surge protector power strips in the vestibule as free cell phone charging stations for folks.

Upside? Driving all over the place without traffic lights is cool.

NSP, glad to hear about your mom.......I'm back on the power grid after 5 days

It's incredible how many people I know that have been personally affected, some family lost homes in Staten Island, several neighbors have lost their entire homes dts, friends having their houses remaining but beat up bad, boats blocks and miles away

Seeing that benefit concert last night was pretty depressing, people having worked their entire lives towards something to finally retire recently and now they have nothing but some of their belongings strewn about several hundred feet

I was able to get my hands on 1400 or so HQ pictures taken by somebody through work who was on a personal aircraft and flew above the shore line, just makes your heart break that this could happen so close to home and at places you've been going to your whole life

Please guys, if you can help out in any way by donating to the trusted websites set up or just throw together even a small bag of clothes or food and water and whatever, try to do so

I don't think it's fair to say that domestic news sources are being untruthful about the situation. Coverage of the disaster and its aftermath are dominating the news cycle right now, pretty much every article is about that or the election or a combination of the two. I haven't seen any stories that have tried to downplay the tremendous damage and continuing crisis. But the claims that Staten Island was turned into a third world refugee camp overnight are a little sensationalist.

That Daily Mail piece contains claims that Staten Island and the Rockaways have been ignored by the recovery efforts, while also running a picture of National Guardsmen unloading a supply truck in the Rockaways. The aid might be getting there slowly, but it's silly to suggest that anybody is being purposefully abandoned, as seems to be the implication.

kinnelon officials did a HORRIBLE job clearing kinnelon road. downed wires hang a foot over your car as you pass. extremely dangerous. only a matter of time before theres a crash there at night. only thing warning you of them are like 3 cones.

That Jersey shore is a blend of competing aromas: the fried dough of zeppoles just before the powdered sugar goes on, the extra garlic on pizza slices, the salty spray coming off the ocean and the smell of the chemical protectants they spray on pier pilings to insulate them from water damage.

It's where the click of spinning prize wheels, carnival barkers' shouts and the "pop" of breaking water balloon games compete for attention with boom-box rap, pop and heavy metal from strolling or skateboarding teens.

"When you're a teenager and you get your driver's license, the first thing you do is get in the car and drive down to Seaside Heights," said Marilou Halvorsen, a lifelong shore resident who until recently worked for the company that owned the now-wrecked Casino Pier in Seaside, where the remains of a roller coaster sit half-submerged in the ocean.

"You walk on the boardwalk, you get an ice cream cone, you take your kids on their first carousel ride: Whether you're young or old, these are memories that are part of your life in every stage of your life," she said. "This is the skyline of the Jersey shore. It's a special place, a historic place."

Nope. He auctions his helmet to raise money, then sends his pads to the Shore to operate as flotation devices.

Priorities.
