It's not really the same with the NJ shore. I agree, rebuilding parts of NO is completely moronic and was only done for political reasons. But this is different in that we dont get as many "shots on goal" as NO does, in the rare instances we do they're usually not as strong, and there's a difference in that in NO a massive chunk of the place is actually
below sea level.
I'll make one caveat for the NJ shore barrier islands. Building on a barrier island, is definitionally a risky behaviour, and were I the insurance companies I'd be pretty pizzed off if I were forced to insure people there.
