I'm a SABRES fan. It matters not to me who is on the team when they win the Cup. Players come and go and are dispensable.

Let's all wait a bit before we declare this thing "nuclear".

Don't get me wrong, that is still a definite possibility, and the season may well end up in the toilet still.

Just remember everything that has been done and said by both sides is a calculation and part of the negotiation process. This current business with the NHL's legal actions and the upcoming vote from the NHLPA regarding disclaimer is all a part of that process as well. Heck, jus the announcement of the "upcoming vote" and the ridiculously long time frame laid out for the voting is part of a calculated negotiation strategy.

Shortly, we are either going to save a 45 to 50 game season, or the season will be gone. We've made it this far, just a bit longer to go now.

Yes, everything has been part of a calculated strategy. However, I'm a no nonsense type of guy so I get extremely frustrated seeing that neither side ever had any intention to reach a deal until the last possible moment. Why couldn't the NHL tell the Union they're not going to putz around and put the end game on the table in Sept else the season's gone? Instead, we're stuck having to endure a "drive to Abilene" when no one really wanted to go there. Four -five months of strutting and spitting at each other based on the premise that the best deal always happens at the 11th hour.

NHL, the Fed Budget, politics, NBA, etc.. All decided via brinksmanship. It's a wonder anything gets done these days.

Cripes, do we really have to mimic pregnancy and childbirth? (If that's indeed the PA's actual end game. We shall see.....)

Not really CBA related but this story is funny and makes me feel oh so sorry for Lupul:

http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL.../20435731.html

Lupul found that Real Sports, the popular hangout next to the Air Canada Centre, would not honour his reservation request because of the ongoing bad blood between owners and players. Through his Twitter account @JLupul, the Leafs star expressed his feelings about the policy, complaining the restaurant and adjoining sports store won’t get set aside tables for the Leafs, “but will continue selling our jerseys at $300 a pop”.

I don't like either side on this argument. They're both in it for their own selfish best interests.

So I'll go there myself. I'm hoping the owners get most of what the want. Only because I know that it'll help keep the Sabres economically viable longer than the current CBA will.

Indeed.

As much as the owners want what they want, I'm 100% sure they don't want a UFA free for all.

It's really questionable if they can even unilaterally void deals like that TBH.

This entire process is like slowly wringing water out of a wet towel.

When the water is gone and the towel is dry, we will either be playing hockey again, or have a lost season.

Each of these developments along the way is just another twist of that towel.

The towel is still wet and we have more wringing to do. Unfortunately.

Going by the last lost season, the wringing cannot last beyond another 8 or 9 weeks.

But that is still 8 or 9 weeks!

Time to turn to the Holidays and the WJC and re-visit this mess after New Year's.

At least that is my plan.

I think it depends on the owner.

I think certain teams like perhaps Buffalo, Toronto, NYR, and others would love it while teams like say LA, Pittsburgh, and Nashville wouldn't.

Then you have teams like Philly and Detroit that wouldn't care either way.

I think full fledged 7/1 craziness where everyone is a UFA would be even better.

The package deals could be crazy.

The Staal brothers all signing with one team.

Ovy, Kovy, Geno, and Datsyuk all signing with one team.

The Sedins join Zetterberg, Karlsson, and Landeskog on a team.

You have to pass the lockout time somehow.

Terry will just go drill a well. Ability to spend unlimited money and every player in the NHL is available at your fingertips? You only get to do this once. Can Terry say "my time to shine"?

At 12 noon on the day of a court ruling on this case, the court comes out and says "the union has decertified properly, all players in the NHL are free agents, and no further collective bargaining can be pursued (i.e., no cap)."

At 12:01, Terry Pegula tweets the following, written on a napkin:

"Kovalchuk ($14M) - Crosby ($20M) - Giroux ($10M)
Ovechkin ($15M) - Malkin ($17M) - Gaborik ($13M)
Sedin ($15M) - Sedin ($15M) - Eberle ($8M)
Eriksson ($8M) - Stamkos ($15M) - Sharp ($8M)

Chara ($14M) - Weber ($14M)
Karlsson ($8M) - Suter ($11M)
McDonagh ($8M) - Keith ($8M)

Quick ($13M)
Lundqvist ($13M)

Total: $247M

Come on boys let's do this"

History is never the same.

Except that I seriously believe he would do this. He could offer everyone on this team a ten year contract, and probably only blow about $2B. Out of his $4B net worth. You know he would do it.

Funny that your Dream Team doesn't include a single current Sabre--and rightly so!

Here's some rational discussion of all the legal stuff from someone qualified to talk about it. Somewhat interesting if you enjoy this stuff.
