I'm sure after the first month of the same old, same old people are tuning off. In fact Stauffer should be thanking Katz for this arena fiasco, or his rating would of taken a tumble earlier. (maybe bob texted katz to tell him what to do for high ratings, now there is a conspiracy )

Hopefully we follow the last routine. Lockout over. Get big player. Goaltending is lacking. Get goalie. Go to finals.

I have little doubt that players are starting to look at what we are building and want to be a part of it. Schultz has already been under siege for making it happen, perhaps he won't be the only one? IMO a 2C with grit is a necessity for this team, whether it'd be Benn or O'Reilly it would be a huge addition to our club. We know that Del Zotto and Sather have been worlds apart on their contract negotiations as well and if we signed him for what Whitney makes or a little under that wouldn't hurt either.

I doubt that we'd go that route TBH.

To me that is either an offer sheet to an RFA or a prospect/picks for RFA deal.
Well if we can pull that off, it will fly in the fact of everyone that thinks that we should've been a cap team all these years. Tambo's long term cap management has been very good IMO.

b) A player who is at this moment an unsigned RFA. This is a very short list.

Del Zotto is somewhat redundant with McDonagh there. Rangers have 4 guys with huge contracts (Lundqvist, Nash, Richards & Gaborik).

I think Colorado could maybe sign O'Reilly but they have Statsny, Downie, Duchene and Landeskog all free agents after the 13/14 season.

O'Reilly makes more sense with the Oilers needs. However, I doubt Colorado would want to trade within the division or conference (If the division changes with realignment). Del Zotto makes sense based on the clues but i don't know why the Oilers would have interest.
The only way that O'Reilly makes sense is if he tells Colorado that he wants to come here, period. If so he would piss the Avs fans the hell off as badly as Schultz pissed off the Anaheim fans.

If so there are a number of high quality RFA's out there.

Its not like they are obligated to give them huge raises if they dont want to.

The Rangers arent a cap team anyway.

He is talking about giving a team some cap relief. That would be Vancouver, Boston, Philly, Minny, SJ, Calgary, etc.

No interest in Boumeester either.
I have no interest at all in Bouw unless Horcoff is going the other way.

There are only 10 that would be eligible for an offer sheet once the CBA is ratified.

From cap geek:

Kulikov, Dmitry D FLA 22 $1,325,000 2012 (RFA)
Petrecki, Nick D SAN 23 $1,125,000 2012 (RFA)
Del Zotto, Michael D NYR 22 $1,087,500 2012 (RFA)
O'Reilly, Ryan C COL 21 $900,000 2012 (RFA)
Subban, P.K. D MTL 23 $875,000 2012 (RFA)
Benn, Jamie C DAL 23 $821,667 2012 (RFA)
Palmieri, Nick R MIN 23 $801,667 2012 (RFA)
Franson, Cody D TOR 25 $800,000 2012 (RFA)
MacLean, Brett L PHO 23 $735,000 2012 (RFA)
Sheppard, James C SAN 24 $725,000 2012 (RFA)

Only two makes sense as a cap casualty, O'Reilly and Del Zotto.

Everyone else signed before Sept. 15.

Meh, nothing is going to happen. My guess is that Bob is just trying to drive up ratings during a time when there's nothing Oiler related to talk about. It's not like he hasn't done this type of thing before.
Also, where do so many of you get Luongo from? Why would they sign a backup for $3.5 mil/yr over the next few years just to bring in Luongo. I will go on record in saying that there is 0% chance that Luongo is coming here and if it is him, i will have lost any remaining faith that i had in management which quite frankly, isn't that much to begin with. It will go against their whole idea of a proper rebuild and ruin any good that is being built up here and before some of you say "Luongo is an elite goalie", he might have been an elite goalie several years back but he has only been an elite regular season goalie, the guy has always crumbled under pressure like a cheap tent to the point that he got replaced by an unproven Schneider on several occasions. He was also extremely shaky in the 2010 Olympics, that team won in spite of him. I haven't even mentioned the albatross contract yet. Ya, no thanks. It'll be easier finding a cheaper, likely better alternative on the open market. Goalie is the least of my worries going forward, i'm much more worried about the lack of toughness in the top 6, the crappy bottom 6, lack of a true #2C and lack of toughness on D.

By the small chance that Stauffer is actually on to something, my guess is either Bouwmeester or the transfer of captaincy from Horcoff to Hall, i pray to god that it's the second option if it comes to these two. The last thing we need is a big, softy on the blueline who crumbles in every big game.

It doesn't matter anyway since we won't find out for another year or two or might never find out if the NHL just folds.

Vancouver and Luongo fit both scenarios. The only fly in the ointment would be if Luongo wanted to come here. I have no interest in acquiring Luongo and I think we would be setting ourselves up for failure if he comes here, and either plays below expectations or doesnt like it for whatever reason, then wants out ala Pronger.

No thanks to that. Weve suffered a lot over the last few years, no need to throw it all away by making a dumb dumb trade/signing.

They said they were going to do things differently, and build from within, and that is exactly what they should do. No more whale hunting.
I agree that it is not time for "whale hunting" right now, but once we are a legit contender (if that ever happens, lol) we will likely have to whale hunting for that piece that puts us over the top, or fills a large need. A possible scenario would be: our young guns all end up being the players we hope they turn into and we're averaging 3.5 goals per game, but our goaltending let's us down. We would have to go to the UFA markett for a tender in such a circumstance.

I agree though, now is not the time.

I thought the same thing listening to todays show. Bob quite clearly has heard something pretty specific. Whether it happens or not is another thing, but I don't doubt for a second that he heard something that he believes to be true.

Probably doesnt mean anything. Stauffer has his souces on the inside but it's only one half of any potential deal. The Oil are interested in someone, doesnt mean anything will happen about it especially with Tambo at the helm.

that would be a circle of life thing since the wild used the pick we traded them for Roloson to take sheppard

No, the Roloson pick ended up going to LA along with Patrick O'Sullivan for Pavol Demitra. The Kings used the pick on Trevor Lewis.

I would really only consider 4 of those players 'wow' players. I'm ruling out Montreal because they don't have much money tied up long term, nor the talent to justify it. I rule put Benn because he's their franchise player thus ineligible to be a cap casualty. All arrows seem to point to Del Zotto. Nash, Richards, Gaborik, Lundqvist take up $29M. Stauffer mentioned the mystery player is destined to be a cap casualty in a couple years.
2013
McDonaugh 1.3 (-> 4+)
Stepan 0.875 (-> 4+)

2014
Kreider 1.325 (-> 3-4)
Girardi 3.325 (-> 4-5)
Stralman 1.7 (-> 3+)

Landeskog + Sequin > RNH + Hall in 2012/13?

Just Bob being Bob, must be a slow news day on Oilersnow.

Last time i seen evidence of Stuaffer flapping his lips he mentioned the Oilers were for sure drafting Ryan Murray. Just can't put a price on that kinda Oiler insider type of information.

Subban and Benn are both looking at rather large raises. And there have been rumblings about PK being traded before the lockout occured. PK is someone to think about there.
