I know this discussion is over. But one of the points I made about marijuana being easier to obtain than alcohol was constantly argued by someone else. Many studies, as well as my, and others personal experience argue that it is true.
I kept counterarguing it, because, like I said, underage alcohol is still readily accessible. I was not originally talking about whether you can get a hook up in 20 minutes, I was talking about rates of consumption over a given period of time. I stand by my opinion that making pot legal would not decrease the rates of consumption among youth.

It may actually increase the number of youths who consume by decreasing the social stigma associated with smoking marijuana.

I think that is why a lot of people do it. A lot of young people want to rebel

It doesn't really have anything to do with being rebels. If pot became legal, you wouldn't see potheads stop doing it just because it's no longer 'rebellious'.

I'd say it's more or less a combination of curiosity and social influences (as in, your parents smoke/smoked, your friends smoke/smoked, you haven't been raised to believe it was 'evil', etc)

It would still be illegal for minors anyway.

Meh, my parents don't/didin't and I've only had a couple friends that have (and they don't do it regularly) but I don't think it is evil

I don't see mimicking the behaviour of adults as a form of rebellion. The rationale isn't 'people drink as a teen because it's illegal', it's 'people drink as a teen because they see it as normal for adults'. A similar rationale would exist for pot if it was legal for adults and illegal for minors.

At least that's how I see it.

I made a distinction between those factors for a reason. Not every person who doesn't smoke would say it's evil. Similarly, not every person who does smoke would say it's good.

What I did say is:
If you've been raised around parents who never consumed, you'd be less likely to do it.

You may also be less likely to do it if you were raised in an environment where consumption of pot was subject to an extremely negative stigmatization.

I took music over art. I never regretted it. Also, I can help with math and science and the like whenever you need it.
