Timra

I was just wondering what you guys there in Sweden who get to watch the SEL think about Timra's chances of winning the league this year? Just curious to see what you guys think. Also I was also wondering what you guys know and/or think about Nordgren and Krykov? Thanks

I think their chances are pretty big. Because Frölunda never wins, so count them out. Linköping and Färjestad is probably their biggest threat in the playoffs.

Lundqvist does not have Norrena to bail him out in the playoffs anymore ^^

Well Timra should at least reach the semifinals but Frolunda will be too tough for any team, I can't see them miss the trophy this season really.

Was that a joke?

I think Djurgården will win as usual.

That depends on how Tommy Salo plays, but they are definately one of many candidates for the championship.

My bet is the powerhouse Västra Frölunda, they have a complete team with strong goaltending and defense plus four lines that can produce. But who knows, favourites have lost before...

Or if they have the courage to let Zajkowski start... I like what I've seen from that guy... very unswedish goalie temperament.

Timrå IK does have a chance to go all the way this season (if injuries doesn't stop us as they did last season when both our goalies (among other important players) got injuries before or during the semi-finals)

Frölunda is a tough nut to crack i agree to that but TIK can beat them, we nearly did so 2 years ago (or atleast we were closer to beating them than Färjestad was in the final).

There is alot of underestimated talent in TIK so with that in mind im looking forward to this years playoffs, but then again there are many teams with great squads this year so even if i have a pretty good idea about Timrå's chances to reach the final i really can't predict anything atm.

Modin is needing a good environment to produce IMO, he would be a lot more effective if Timrå played him with Z.

In the SEL I would say yes, but not yet at the international level.

So you feel he could develop more? What is your opinion on Krykov? I know he has been around for awhile just wonder how much is expected from him on a game to game basis. Thanks for your input.

Well, Niklas Nordgren haven't played that many international games, and no big tournaments. He simply haven't had enough chances to prove himself IMO. He usually plays in the less regarded tournaments in Finland, Czech Republic and Russia but aint good enough to play in the Worlds. In those tourneys he usually have limited linemates to make him as good as he can be. However, he is one of the best wingers in Sweden, and yes, I feel he can develop even more. He has been said to be lazy with pysichal and conditioning practise earlier, but seem to be well-trained now, but with even more practise I think he can be even better. This is my opinions anyway.

As for Valeri Krykov, he hasn't been as good this season as last seasons, and maybe age has catched up with him. He hasn't been bad, but not stood out in any way, maybe due to his degration to 2nd line center behind Zetterberg. Another concern could be the much higher standard of the SEL this season, where the game is more speedy and intese. Krykov is however a smart player , and usually does a good job everytime he is on the ice. Good playmaking skills. He weakest asset is definetly his skating, he is getting slower and slower with age.

Thanks a lot for the input on both Nordgren and Krykov. What about Hagos?

Also, do you feel Nordgren will ever try and make a jump to North America or stay in Sweden? Maybe his reputation as being lazy has kept him from coming to North America?

Well, Nordgren had his breakthrough just some seasons ago, and due to his age Carolina probably wanted to wait to see what he could do over several seasons. I don't think he'll hesitate to move over the pond if he recieves a good offer.

As for Hagos, you can look at him as a Samuel Påhlsson clone but with better upside. Strong with the puck and along the boards, hits when he has the opportunity, good faceoff guy and great in the defensive zone.
