Tanev has been excellent for the most part.
If Tanev can just become a good shooter...then damn...!

Admirals score as Kassian takes a bad penalty.

True. Just a little different after the long NHL stoppage.

Wow, terrible goal given up there by Hellberg - slipped right between the arm and the pad.

Sterling scores on the short side! His second of the game.

I think Rodin assists.

Tanev has been excellent for the most part.
He's had several noticeable shifts, has been impossible to move in front of the Milwaukee goal and provided the screen on two goals, and only a double-miracle save prevented him from scoring himself.

Guys aren't going to monsters every single shift. He's been one of the best players in the game tonight, penalty aside.

Yeah mostly we as Canucks fans should only be concerned about our actual prospects' D-zone, neutral zone play etc as the majority of the team are still just AHL calibre.

But I think it's okay to expect a little more out of the team's play as a whole if you want for the team to go far though - maybe the Moose just rode Krog and Schneids that entire year but look what a long run to the finals in 09 did for Grabner. JS and Kassian could use an extended season playing against already-heightened competition.

Liking the powerplay this game. Hope we keep these units!

Rodin is on the half-wall on the 2nd unit and doing a good job there.

Kassian is being a bit wasted on that 1st unit though. Hell, I don't even know why it's the 1st unit when all the top scorers (and Connauton) are on the 2nd.

That's true. Loving the Gordon-Schroeder-Kassian line though. Beautiful passing.

Terrible D-zone coverage leads to an Admirals goal.

5-3 now.

Really confused on why Kassian has fallen so far off the map. He's not scoring, but even more concerning he's not playing with any real grit. Not stirring the pot, not running guys over, no open ice hits, no fights. I mean if he's not Lin to score he's got to be noticeable in those areas.

Man, he hasn't been excellent, but I wouldn't be that harsh. He's having a (very) good game.

Got a bit fancy on that last chance, probably should've just shot it as Schroeder sprung him down the middle.

May I refer you to my hypothesis that our AHL affiliate has historically been a vacuum offensively for prospects?

He sure reminds of Bertuzzi at times eh, even if that play was 'fancy' for a guy his size to gain the line and that quick saucer pass across was very Bert-like.

I do agree, the lack of dominant physical play is missing, but the puck protection and use of his size offensively around the net and on the boards is really good.

I'd sure like to see him beat somebody up though.

consistency in physical play was likely one of the reasons why buffalo decided to go with foligno over kassian, definitely something he needs to work on but i doubt he's ever going to be the guy you look for to throw a hit every shift

He's more of a skill guy who just happens to have size and some nastiness, rather than a primarily mean and tough guy with some skill. We don't need him to play exactly like Lucic, really. He just needs to blend his skill with his size and you can already see that with the way he protects the puck. The hits are going to come naturally when he's on. But you can't expect him to beast it every game. Not even Lucic does that.

I think it's just the disconnect between his offensive game and his toughness. He gets his points by being a smart, skilled player that's excellent at protecting the puck. Whereas to a guy like Lucic hitting and being physical is his primary way to make things happen offensively.

All power forwards take nights off and get *****ed at for their consistency... You just can't play physical every night and survive a long season.
