Wish Arniel would just stack two offensive lines and then run two bottom lines that are just solid defensively. Haydar should be benched, he's not contributing at either end of the ice (sure he had 2 points tonight but that comes off of a complete joke of a performance yesterday). Ebbett would be benched too ideally but he's the Wolves only other offensive center and Longpre is even worse defensively. His attempts at spreading out the offense amongst three lines are just maddening, then you end up with Schroeder's and Mallet's lines being the only ones playing well at ES, plus Kassian being completely wasted most of the time on that 2nd line.
The fact that Haydar is a captain is a complete joke. Don't care about his seniority and service to the Wolves, he looks like he couldn't give a **** that hockey is being played.
I don't know much about Matheson, but wow he's bad defensively. I would of benched him after the giveaway which lead to a break away with seconds to go in the period. I cringed every time he was on the ice.
The coach is probably just trying to get Haydar and Ebbett going by putting Kassian with them, though I would have liked to see him with Schroeder more in the 3rd period.
Kind of disappointed that they gave up a goal late in the 3rd, but oh well.
Is it just me, or did Lack not seem like his usual confident self? I don't think he was bad, just seemed a little uncomfortable for some strange reason...
I'm also liking the play of Mallet - his line was effective in the limited minutes they played, but I don't think they saw much ice in the 3rd period. He made a lot of good plays with the puck though when he was out there. Those first few minutes in the 3rd where the 4th line got hemmed in their own zone was probably the big turn-off for Arniel however. Overall though that line was pushing play in the right direction and was in the attacking end more often than not, so that's good to see from him.
Sometimes when I don't watch Kassian for a while and only read reports from posters here I start to get discouraged. Then I watch him play and I realize there's just no way he won't be a top 6 forward in the NHL. Total package, he looked solid tonight.
I love Mallet. Schroeder still strikes me as a career AHLer. Needs some kind of breakthrough, dunno where it will come from.
Overall I'm disappointed with the Wolves. Not an energetic team to watch. Not sure what it is, coaching or personnel, but something's missing.
