There was a decent post over on the Oilers board that makes a pretty strong case that he's not simply leeching off the star talent. A very large proportion of his points are by either assisting or being assisted by less well known players on the team.
And even if it was the 'Erhoff' effect, he has 28 points in 18 games as a rookie pro. No matter how you slice that, it is incredibly impressive.

Is he really doing that well? Ducks fans must be fuuuuuming.
For Oilers fans it's probably some sort of divine retribution over the Pronger fiasco.

Can't be too upset. How has his defensive game been? He can rack up all the points that he wants (that is still incredible btw), but he could be the next MA Begeron if he sucks defensively
It wouldn't be so bad if he hadn't made us sit through the Bachelorette finale only find out Edmonton gets his rose. But you're right, Anaheim gets first dibs on maximum bitterness, they got royally ****ed.
Would you rather that he didn't talk to us at all?
Edmonton just made a better offer than we did and honestly I wish we made the offer. We have a hole at RS offensive d-man.
If we promised him a spot on the #1 PP, which it strongly looks like he would have deserved, then he would almost be guaranteed to hit all his rookie bonuses....Edmonton basically made him that promise (and remember, rookie bonuses are worth three times more than the basic contract).

As good as he may be, you can't do this. It is a slipery slope. You have to earn what you get. It helps build you and your team. From what I have heard that is part of the reason why Hodgson was traded. It's a team game, the team comes first.
I can understand why he went there, there are a lot of reasons, but i would not want to offer him a gaurentee on anything with playing.
its scary what that kid is doing. I have a feeling him and Nuge are gonna haunt us for a long time... Like Sakic did. Damn those BC boys.
I'm still not sure physically he can handle the day-in-day-out punishment the body takes in the NHL. He could very well be injury prone for most of his career. Unlike Hall, it wouldn't be because he's reckless.
If the NHL thinks our core is soft, can't wait to see what they think of Eberle, RNH and Hall as they get better and teams start hitting them harder specifically.

You're telling me this guy won't be able to handle the punishments of the NHL?
Last time he was in the AHL, Aaron Rome had 6 goals in 7 games. Just saying... Schultz will be a good player, but no need to assume anything based on a small sample size of playing on an elite AHL team.
Sweatt was in all alone so it would've been pathetic if he didn't. Perfectly played 2-on-1 by Schroeder. Rodin also did well to get it out of the zone to spring them on that 2-on-1.

Longpre looks pathetic. I remember when some thought he was the next coming of Burrows or whatever. Horrible defensively and zero hockey sense, just skates around hoping something will come of it. Any game now, Mallet will jump ahead of him on the depth chart if Arniel has any sense.
