Willie Desjardins and the Hook

Anyone remember Willie's coaching style when he was in Medicine Hat? I'm a Texas Stars fan and I've never seen a coach pull a goalie quicker than Willie. About 7-8 games into the season, he's pulled either Jack Campbell or Chris Nilstorp for the other in about half the games, often in the first period. And not under blow-out scenarios, maybe a couple of soft goals at worst.

I remember in his early years in the Hat in a side interview he mentioned that he wasn't an expert in regards to goalies, but that was a loooong time ago.

In the Hat he had really good teams and would ride players through their struggles. I don't remember him pulling goalies that often, but he didn't have to untill his last 1-2 seasons.

When he was the WJC coach in 2010 he was critisized heavily about leaving the one goalie in the net even though he was fighting the puck...cant remember the goalie but I remember the media criticsm.

I think he has learned a lot since.

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting to read he would "ride players through their struggles" as he appears to be doing that with a guy Dallas is big on, Reilly Smith.
