Ever seen an NHL goaltender's arms at the end of the year?
At the end of the day it's still a bruise that's dropping him out of a playoff game altogether. It's not as if that's an injury. I highly, highly doubt any legitimate NFL quarterback would ever let something like that take them out of pads completely. And then you've got someone like Favre who would have played, no question.

Just out of curiosity how many sports did/do you play and on how high a level?
Looking at that bruise and being a six sport athlete myself and knowing of Ponder's character it's pretty clear he would not have been nearly 100 percent. That is some halacious bruise right there.
Do you even know what a bruise is? it generally happens when there's some kind of muscular damage...and it's clear from that pic that there's been some decent damage there.
All you need do is take a look at rg3 in washington yesterday to see what happens when sucking up an injury is the wrong choice.
Once again I think sitting ponder was the right decision.

Would you say there's a difference between an injury and being hurt?
What Jared Allen played with all season is an injury. The picture above is hurt. Yes, I'd like to see players play through a ding in a playoff game. Especially one at a vital position like QB.
But if Ponder was put in and without telling the media/fans about the injury before hand and he played terrible because of it. Would everyone be coming back with torches and pitchforks wondering why Webb was not started?

I see you conveniently avoided the above-asked question.
given that ponder's played through injury before I can't see how it could be a pain tolerance issue anyway. I understand people are upset, but no need to throw away logic and reason in the search for a scapegoat.

Bingo. If he doesn't have any ability to lift his arm, or get any velocity on his throws I think he's a bigger liability than Webb was.
My only complaint was that I think he should have started, handed the ball off a couple times, then let Webb play the rest of the game. I think it would have confused GB a ton if he could have pulled it off.
I'm gonna just go out on a limb here and say that a sub-100% Ponder would probably given us a better chance than Webb did.
after watching Webb I agree with you. With hindsight.
However before the game I'd have called in Webb knowing Ponder couldn't throw the ball more than 10 yards. I'm sure the coaching staff was just as surprised as everyone else how horrible Webb was.
maybe he just sucks under pressure and looks good in practice?
Would have liked to see MBT get some time. Even the last drive would have sufficed. Webb clearly has no future as a QB, so lets stop wasting our time and his time with this experiment.
Kevin Seifert (NFC north blogger on ESPN) on Ponder's injury:
Quote:
I don't understand the suggestion that Ponder should have "toughed out" his injury. From the best that I can tell, the decision wasn't based on pain tolerance. It was a matter of function. Ponder's bruised triceps was so tight he couldn't throw more than 15 yards. I saw his pregame warmup. Unless the whole thing was a conspiratorial ruse, Ponder could not have played anywhere close to effectively. If you think Ponder at 50 percent would have been better than Webb at 100 percent, you're missing the point. The quality of the backup, or lack thereof, shouldn't have bearing on the decision. They are two separate issues. Sunday's debacle at FedEx Field illustrates how short-sighted the tough guy mentality can be. Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III played with an injury that dramatically reduced his effectiveness. It hurt his team and played a big role in its season-ending loss.
