Personally I don't see either Luongo or JBo as good fits for the Oilers.
If I was asked which move is more likely it is JBo.
There has been lots of talk from the Oilers with regards to acquiring a veteran D Man since the end of last season. There has been rumored interest in the likes of Yandle and Streit. Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now has many times over the last few months pumped the tires of JBo. He has interviewed Some Calgary radio guys and Jbo's value has been discussed on some occasions. Consensus was 2nd and B prospect (take that for what it is worth) but that's a lot less than what's being asked for Luongo on these boards,.considering his cap hit and the cap dropping, it might be on the right track.
Contast that with what Stauffer has said about Luongo, pretty much zero and I think you have your answer.
The only comments that have come out as regards goaltending were those from Lowe where all he basically said that currently the goalie position was questionable but Dubnyk was trending upward and needed to take the opportunity to become the #1. I honestly believe if there was even a slight possibility of Luongo to Edm, Bob Stauffer would be selling it hard to the fans now.
As I said I personally don't want either but just throwing this out there.
Am I late to the party?
So was reading thehockeynews today and in the article it said that the Oilers made an Offer for Luongo prior to the CBA expiring. Obviously I feel late to the party, but just thought i would put that out there.

The only person that ever has said we made an offer was Botchford, and the guy has never once provided a source or any sort of logic to his speculation.
He is one of those "this is what happened, it's the truth, if you don't believe me then I don't care because it's right anyways".

The only place that has come from is Botchford and that was dismissed as bs by Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now, and believe me if there was anything in that rumor he would have been selling it hard to the Oiler fans.

I'm not saying the report holds any water (cause how would I know) but this made me laugh. How often do you see a reporter come out and say "So I was just talking to Gillis yesterday and he totally told me Edmonton just made a huge offer for Luongo. Go ahead, ask him, I'm sure he's got no problem with me dropping his name like this."
Maaaybe if the report is a couple months old then a reporter will reveal that he got his info from a legitimate source, but how often do you hear reporters name drop front office guys when discussing rumours about moving specific players?

Well, often times guys will at least say, "according to a source within the Canucks organization", etc. Of course, anyone could just say that, but it seems to at least more truth than saying nothing at all.
The guy just reports specualtion as fact, and then when someone in the organization of the team in question refutes it he just continues to say it is true. IMO, if you are going to be THAT into a story that has been refuted at every turn, he could at least perhaps suggest when it happened, how he knows (where the source even came from), etc.
I mean, I don't expect him to tell us what him and Gillis had for lunch, but the guy is not going to be taken seriously without providing at least some details.
Either way, everything Botchford has said has been refuted from people within the Oilers, so I just don't buy anything he says with respect to teams he doesn't even cover.
Addresses their need for a top-4 d-man and a high end goalie.

Dreaming to think the Oilers would want Luongo, if the Canuck fans want to trade Luongo move on, because Edmonton wants nothing to do with him and his contract.
A "Wow" trade surely implies Eberle, RNH, Hall, or Yakupov, and as a Habs fan would surely love to see Gally and Yakupov reunited...
I just do not see how the Oilers, on the verge of building a powerhouse for the next 5-10 years, would part with any of these four which will be the centerpieces of this possible dynasty.
By the way, Yakupov's recent play is driving his value through the roof...

Except that the person predicting the "wow" trade said in no uncertain terms that it does not include one of the big four.

No, no. The interview made it quite clear this "wow" deal did not involve one of the kids.
IMO, it will either be nothing at all or a "wow" trade that just involves a player that people are not talking about, but no one that high profile.
It's obvious Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yakupov, and for that matter Schultz are untouchable, so it can't be anything too "wow", but we could trade for a solid piece with non-core assets.
