Montreal "M" The Forgotten

I look at this jersey and..

They were ours (even if they were the "anglophone" team)
They won Stanley Cups.
They had great players.

Why don't we talk about them ? Why is it so difficult to discover and know much of their history. I would wet myself if the Habs could somehow play with these jerseys on some night, remembering the past of this great city.

Man.

They aren't us, it's as if the rangers played as the islanders. Same city diffrent teams. They were great and they help, among other Montreal teams, take about 30-40% of the stanley cup ever awarded.

We here at HF boards do not dwell about the 1920s!

Oh I'm not talking about "HFBoards", more in the sense of Montreal Sports Tradition. We all talk about our great Habs players, but so many people forget about Nels Stewart and Babe Siebert legacy to our city.

I wish they could always be remembered. That team won more Cups than a lot of team playing in the NHL right now.

True but things were different back then, I believe the cup was still challenge based.

No way should the Habs wear the Maroons' sweater. They are two different franchises, and that should be respected. Imagine, AC Milan wearing an Inter Milan jersey for a game, or Manchester United wearing the colours of Manchester City. That is absolutely absurd.

I think it could be fine if done ONCE, for some historic reason.. let's say 100 years after the maroons' birth, or 75 years after last cup, whatever.. find a reason to commemorate them. I'd do it only once for such a reason, you know, just to.. celebrate them. With permission of whoever may hold their rights, if someone does, obviously.

But they were arch-rivals!!!

NDG's AA team was called Maroons for a long time until they merged with the Hurricanes and became the Hurons...

Wasn't the Lachine Jr. team called the Maroons ? I wonder how the fan base was divided in those days ? I've always suspected that the anti CH fans in Mtl. were sort of an evolution of Maroon fan/families. They became Detriot fans in the 50's,Chicago in the 60's and then Bruin fans. You have to admit though that they stayed loyal to the B's, if in fact my theory has any basis in reality. Mtl. based Bruin fans don't seem divided on language though, just on this board there are good French Canadian Boston fans. My Dad remembers Maroon players but not really what it was like with 2 teams in the city. Without media focus the way it is today, kids would follow neighbourhood teams as much as pro teams. The NHL wasn't always the goal, players would have to be convinced to leave their jobs in order to play, often jobs that were hard to come by.

I'm pretty sure Gros Bill was a die hard Maroons fan back in the day.
