The Leafs just don't have the quality assets to get Malkin. So I don't really see the point in offers from them.

Yeah I was trying to find some young, established offensive talent but they just don't really have all that much :

If Malkin ever wanted out for some reason, I would give

Kessel
JVR
Grabovski
Reilly
1st

Neal - Crosby - Kessel
JVR - Grabovski - Kunitz

Kulemin - Malkin - Lupul
Macarhur - Connolly - Kadri

our top 6 would kinda suck but attracting players to come to Toronto with a generational talent would solve everything

Ovechkin on the Pens would produce more than Malkin on the Capitals IMO. If I'm Washington, I'd rather hang on to Ovi++++ and hope he becomes dominant again.

And obviously Malkin never gets traded, but the "you don't trade Malkin blah blah blah Conn Smythe" posts get annoying. The threads just for fun.

St.Louis could put together a pretty good offer. 3 of Pietranglo,Backes,Shattenkirk, and Tarasenko?

People won't find another active player with that resume anywhere, at any age.

Yes because thats a fair deal. Lets deal Kesler+ major salary dump + a late first for arguably the best player in the world. The Canucks would need to trade Edler+a Sedin + Kesler for Malkin.

I maybe a Maple Leafs fan, however this wasn't meant as a Leafs specifc trade thread when I wrote it. Just wanted to get a sense what people thought Malkin might be worth to fans of other teams and if they actually see him getting traded?

Does the fact that he put Luongo/Schneider together not speak volumes about how he's not considered a salary dump? But that's off topic.

Kesler, Schneider, and Edler(assuming he's re-signed when this hypothetical trade happens)

From the Jets:

E. Kane
Bogosian
Schiefele
1st

I personally wouldn't do it, from a Jets perspective.

Edler is significantly better than a late first as the original trade proposal was fashioned. Still not enough though

Yeah, I know. But it's about the most we could offer without gutting our team. I'd say it's pretty competitve, if Malkin absolutely had to be traded. We could also probably add a winger prospect like Jensen/Kassian, I guess.

If Malkin was on the market, from a Pens perspective that'd be an intriging offer and one they should take if they can't work out a deal to get another superstar.

Although Winnipeg would be giving up significant young assets, Malkin is a generational talent. You give up nearly anything it takes to get a generational talent, especially in a hockey market like Winnipeg.

We have an elite winger in Kessel that would be the start of any package.

To say we don't have the quality pieces is just dumb.

That said, it would take too much of ours or anyone elses roster to get Malkin for it to ever make sense. Your team would be such a barren wasteland after the trade (besides Geno) that there is no way you could still contend.

Would the Pens entertain the idea of two Sedins and some for Malkin?

This kinda based on the Pens going with more of a quality 2 lines of scoring depth but havig 3 top players over 2.

I would not do that. 2 elite players > 1 superstar player.

We'd be a worse team after that trade.

I beg to differ. Malkin is a supreme Superstar. He is literally the perfect combo of size skill speed and heart. He has one of the best power games for a skill player that I can ever remember, he can be used as any type of shooter playmaker and so on. He doesn't rely on havig his brother on the ice to bring out his potential and isn't even close to hitting 30 yet.

I'll take Malkin flanked by our still good but not great wingers. Considering we have 2 young wingers doing very well in development, both shoot different hands while still owning Booth, Higgins, Raymond and Burrows all capable of playing with quality team mates who have produced at different times with each.

The idea of having Malkin for 10 or so years over having 2 Sedins for 4-6 at most is way more intriguing

I personally think Malkin is the 2nd best player on the planet (behind only a healthy Crosby), yet looking at these proposals makes me think Pitt should trade him. Some of these offers are franchise-wrecking. He's an amazing player, but Stamkos+Hedman? Sedin+Sedin++?

Agree to disagree then. I don't see the difference between Henrik and Malkin as Daniel. Henrik and Daniel also won back to back Art Rosses the two seasons before last. This year Henrik led the entire Western Conference in points and the entire league in assists.

And simply put, 160-200 points >>> 90-110 points.

I don't know that that's true. It depends on what else goes into the deal.

Malkin's not worth both Sedins. But neither Sedin is worth Malkin.

Perhaps Sedin+Sedin for Malkin+Dupuis/Kunitz. Vancouver doesn't have two elite forwards on their first line at this point, but they do have more space to go out and get another scoring forward. Pittsburgh now has Crosby, Daniel, Henrik, Neal, Dupuis/Kunitz, and probably Tyler Kennedy on their top two lines.

I've said it before, if Pittsburgh trades one of them it should be Crosby. He has less value to Pittsburgh than Malkin because of his health, but he has more value to others despite his health.

Kunitz/Malkin/Neal was the first line last year. If Crosby were traded, Pittsburgh probably sends him West and looks for a good center, a good winger to flank said center, and maybe a top-four defenseman.

Crosby for Richards+Carter+Voynov?
