Daniel Catenacci

Gritty, creative though undersized that plays a strong 2 way game with good offensive tools and hits like a truck, insane speed.

What does he project to be?

Was he drafted in the top 10?

If not, no one on this forum cares....he will probably be a 3rd/4th liner.

I'd say Catenacci probably becomes a third liner. He's got a great skill set, so maybe he could be more than that. He's got an excellent arsenal of shots, his slapshot is hard and accurate and he has a very powerful and precise wristshot. He's got hands that can keep up with his speed too.

Catenacci also plays with an edge, but I wouldn't say that he "hits like a truck". He finishes all of his checks, but he is flattening people every game. He's a very safe prospect because of that edge, it's really only his size that holding him back. Which I personally don't think is that big of an issue because of how skilled he is and how willing he is to grind it out.

I have been very intrigued by how well Cat is doing this year. Anyone from Owen Sound watch this guy? Currently has 22 points in 15 games so far. Pretty impressive for someone I did not really have high expectations for.

Had a brutal start where he was totally undisciplined and got benched by Greg Ireland, but since then has been like Mike Halmo last year and playing with fire and being the straw that stirs the offensive drink for Owen Sound.

He, Cameron Brace, and Gemel Smith are three undersized forwards with tremendous wheels and grit and they cause opponents a lot of problems.

As for his NHL upside, I'd say he slots in as a 3rd/4th line centre to be honest. Unless his offence really transfers well to the pro level, I'd say his combination of skill, work ethic, and grit make him an ideal future 3rd line centre type of prospect.

Potential to be a 3rd line, sometimes play on the 2nd line player from what I have seen (which I admit isn't a lot). I am surprised he's sticking out only a year after he was picked so late in the draft.

Hoping this kid can translate his game into an NHL 3rd line C role. All of a sudden the Sabres future C depth is looking quite good.

Grigorenko
Girgensons
Catenacci
Hodgson
Ennis

Young as hell though.

Reminds me of Cliff Ronning.

Difficult to say if he ends up making a dent in the NHL, will probably depend on how well he can adapt his role.

I've watched Daniel Catenacci quite a bit over the last few years to know that he was definately the steal of the 2011 NHL Draft. Some analysts had him going in the first round of the NHL Draft. This kid was the first overall pick in the 2009 OHL Draft for good reasons. He was also the fastest skater at the 2011 CHL Prospect game. I know he takes it serious about becoming a pro and trains during the summer with Gary Roberts. I will say it over and over that Cat is the most NHL ready Sabres prospect at the moment. At 5'10 191 Lbs Size is not an issue when his core strength is as strong as his. He skates with that low centre of gravity that makes it tough for opponents to knock him off the puck. Strong, super skilled, lightning fast, fearless, gritty and leader are the words that come to mind when I think of this kid. He will become a top six forward at the NHL level without a doubt. His GM in Owen Sound said in an interview that there isn't a better, more complete player in the OHL than Daniel Catenacci at the moment. He's been one of the main reasons the Attack is first overall in the the OHL standings and doing so well. Cat's always been one of my favourits, Buffalo's got a gem. 1G and 2A tonight.

I remember watching him play in Markham one night before I had a game. Our entire team had no idea who he was the year before he got drafted but we were all in awe of how good he was. And that's saying something as we are all a year older than he is.

He will be a pretty good NHLer for sure.

Not sure what he projects at, but I believe the habs were interested in him. Sabres drafted him, habs dealt their 3rd for 2 4ths.

he's my favorite player, been watching him for over 60 games now, impresses me every game. He never lets up! He had awesome chemistry with Halmo last year, I could just imagine if Halmo was there this year. I could see his size becoming a factor at the NHL playoff level, as the NHL playoffs still demands physical play.

He looked like a man among boys at the Sabres prospect camp this summer.

Dan is tied for 3rd in the OHL in scoring along the likes of Alex Galchenyuk, Sean Monahan, and Mark Scheifele. Having scored 32 points in 20 games. One of these is not like the others, how is he doing so well?

I'll be ecstatic if he turns into a better Darren Helm. He also might be a longshot to make the team now (well, whenever the season starts), given that he's got perhaps the most Lindy-Ruff friendly skillset in the pool until Girgensons ages, and his combination of speed and defensive prowess might keep him up as a 3/4th line C.

Cat with any two of Foligno, Ott and Kaleta sounds like a super fun line.

Vanek-Grigorenko-Pominville
Ennis-Hodgson-Stafford
Foligno-Girgenssons-Tropp
Ott-Catenacci-Sekera

Pretty solid lineup I'd say

I meant Kaleta, I get the two mixed up occasionally for some reason. Not sure where Gerbe fits in...probably replaces Ott

With the lockout ongoing roster spots are gonna be tougher to get, but he seems to be making a pretty strong case for himself. In any case, he's definitely exceeding the (almost non-existent) expectations I had for him as a 3rd round pick.

Could hit a 100 points! Glad to see him breaking out and finally people taking notice. Like I said, I been following him before he was drafted by the Sabres.

I could see this guy as a third line grinder alongside Jenner in the WJC.
