And the highest scoring rookie dman for 2014/15 is....

...going to be ??

Go ahead, he's just got to be a Calder eligible rookie. What rookie dman will put the most points on the board this season ? Ekblad ? Reinhart ? dark horse like Dumba or Pouliot maybe ?

Throw your prediction out there, I'm quite curious to see it.

Im gonna go wild here and say Dumba.

If he gets PP time he for sure will put up 30 points. Ekblad is similar however he plays more of a two-way style than offensive. Mueller would be a high favourite, but SJ's D-Core seems to be more hyperdefense and let the stars up-front score. Beaulieu would be nice on top PP time with Subban, however I think its going to be Subban-Markov Beaulieu-Gilbert as the PP pairings. Nurse MAY get 30 if he can feed it to Eberle and Hall with the limited time he will get.

Dumba reminds me waaaaay too much of Subban from what i've saw from him. Beaulieu is a french Markov. Beaulieu reminds me of Kaberle except 2x the skill, skating and defensive abilities. Mueller is Doughty-lite. Nurse is a young Phaneuf.

I am guessing Ekblad just because I see him getting big minutes to produce(ie PP time)

I don't think Pouliot is much of a dark horse, he's pretty widely recognized as one of the best OFD prospects outside of the NHL and is on the same team as the 2 best offensive players in the NHL.

I think if he sticks past nine games it'll be Nurse.

As french as you can be when you are from the London Ontario area, I guess.

Beaulieu isn't considered a ''rookie'' by NHL standards since he played 6 games or more in each of the last 2 seasons. He would definitely be a prime candidate if he was of rookie status though.

Beaulieu is Markov, or Kaberle ? How is Beaulieu a French Markov when he was born in Ontario and speaks almost no French ? His dad is a francophone, but he isn't.

If Dumba sticks on the NHL roster, he'll get his PP time for sure, possibly with the #1 unit. 30 points is within reach.

Mueller is slated to start in the top 4, so I'll go with the homer pck after last year's 2 rookies.

The guys in italics are more defensively minded. I'd probably go with Ekblad but Dumba is another possibility. Van Riemsdyk could also surprise.

OP was looking for highest scorer, which likely Mueller won't be.

Don't be so hard on him, it's an easy mistake to make. Reminds me of some broadcaster here in MTL a few years back.

- Habs should really go after Patrick Marleau, a good Quebecer!
- He isn't a Quebecer
- Well... a good francophone then!
- He isn't a Francophone
- ...

Back on topic, Ekblad will probably get decent ice time, and plenty of PP time, so I'll go with him.

He'll be on the first unit PP... For the people picking Nurse or Klefbom from Oilers there is no guarantee that they'll be playing more games than Hunt this season in the NHL. Even if they do it will be with minimal PP time.

Dumba is opening up the season on the Wild's first PP unit.

Parise - Granlund - Pominville
Suter - Dumba

The options around Dumba in that set up are all very good, will garner a lot of attention, and do a very good job of finding one another. IF Dumba can stick all year, he's likely to stay on that top pairing unless Spurgeon or Folin push for that spot (I don't see it). By virtue of playing on that unit, he's going to see a good amount of points come is way (5pts in 5 games this preseason; 4 on the PP).

The question is, can Dumba stick long term. He hasn't looked out of place yet, but the pace is about to pick up and he certainly comes with a lot of scrutiny from those who have seen a good amount of him.
