2nd period

Wolves vs Toronto Marlies

TO 1-0

New face in Chicago...Eric Kattelus

He was with the Wolves last season and has played this season with the K-Wings. Katellus has 32 pts in 34 games played for KAL.

Currently the Marlies are 3rd in the Western Conference standings.

I tuned in at the start of the 2nd.

Andronov with excellent defensive play. Shields just had an excellent defensive play.

Wolves PK

SH chance for Aucoin and Andronov. Good tip on net by Andronov, but saved.

FS now

Oops Wolves PK again

Porter poor clear attempt

Cannone good SH shot

Marlies great on PP and Wolves only okay on PK

Cross ice feeds twice...one was flubbed by McKegg and another hit side of net or Allen saved...could not tell. But both dangerous plays.

FS now

Wolves PK again

Allen lost his stick and the Marlies score

TO 2-0

The goal was scored because the Marlies have a structured PP with very crisp passing and pass receiving.

Allen had a chance to grab his stick soon after he lost it, but did not. Like the announcers said, Allen looked a little lost without his stick. He could have gotten into a much better position instead of over-committing to his right. Shot went by his glove hand.

Allen looks extra quick, though.

However, he just made a dangerous play. A bouncing puck came in on net and he stood up and swiped it to the wall. That puck could have hopped over his stick. Allen should have played it more like a 2nd baseman

The Maple Leafs' prospects ticker on their HF board includes three players in the lineup tonight; Josh Leivo-LW, Jerry D'Amigo-LW and Stuart Percy-D

Wolves PP

They look good

Couple good chances. Davies good shot.

Wolves goal!

Fairchild's 1st from Aucoin and Mancari

Marlies are damn good. Very quick. D-men have good reach.

TO 2-1

This goal was the result of getting the puck deep and out working the Marlies behind their net.

Mancari got the puck in front to Fairchild who made a sneaky backdoor pinch to tap in the puck.

Marlies looked like the Wolves with the blown coverage and their PK team watching the play instead of watching Fairchild.

Jaskin is in, btw.

Wannstrom with great play to create own shot with wrap around attempt.

He is very good below the icing line (or whatever the heck it is called). Wannstrom can power the puck out front a la Jaskin. Wannstrom has some strength.

Rattie looks terrible. Slow. Uninterested. Not confident.

Jaskin is a true power forward, but Andronov and Wannstrom have some strength also. Andronov is a better two-way player than Wannstrom, but Wannstrom looks a little bit more like Jaskin in his style. Just not as good at it.

2nd period over

TO leads 2-1

Allen with 12 saves

3rd period

Early on, Oberg with unnecessary pass just for the sake of forwarding the puck.

Andronov great play to keep puck at RW o zone wall

Wolves PP but could have been a PK cuz Locke flopped big time

Wolves goal on fluke shot off Andronov's hand. He is hurt. Straight to locker room

Andronov's 10th from Rattie and Mancari

Tied 2-2

Wolves PP

Andronov is fine! Whew!

Wolves 5 on 3

Marlies got it out

Jaskin good pass to Aucoin but he failed to one time it

Fairchild good pass to Wolves fwd who, like Aucoin, failed to one time a decent pass.

FS now

Wolves are pressing now.

4 on 4 Jaskin carried the puck and made his own shot. Very good PF move

And another tip by Jaskin on net and saved

Wolves in again at FS and Jaskin pass to Porter down low that was stopped.

About 9 minutes left in 3rd period

Holzer and MacWilliam of the Marlies look great on D

Hakanpaa has been unremarkable except for a couple decent passes, which is good because he is weak at passing.

Davies looks good tonight. Very energetic

Jaskin great job to gain the o zone but he has somewhat limited passing vision and passed the puck right to a Marlies player.

Marlies PP

Wolves PK looks terrible

Porter and Cannone horrible foot work allowed Marlies possession and Allen had to be great, which he was.

FS now

4 minutes left

Great job Davies to gain zone and shoot

Allen with decent handle behind net but Jaskin needs to handle that pass better. Jaskin continues to have difficulty receiving passes.

It's fun to watch the Toronto Marlies because I have always loved the Maple Leafs.

About to go to OT

OT

Chorney great play and pass to Andronov with great shot and equally great save

Wolves PP

4 on 3

Wolves PP is bad bad bad

No movement at all and now a call on the Wolves and Wolves announcers are whining like typical Chicago sports announcers do.

3 on 3 for 41 seconds

TO PP

TO PP looks so much better than Wolves'.

Allen great blocker save

Then Wolves SH opportunity

Near end of PP Marlies goal

Wolves lose 3-2 in OT

Wolves vs Rockford IceHogs

Conference Standings

Allen in net
LaBarbera in net for Hogs

Edmundson scratched

Allen almost scored own goal with very poor puck handling

Porter nice play in own zone to slow down play and get the puck out without icing

Andronov looking very good tonight. Good play behind Allen to take away space.

Looks good o zone too. Very energetic lined up with Kattelus, who has decent wheels.

Wolves PP

Rattie found open space and decent shot

Aucoin was down low and did not shoot. He tried to pass to Mancari in slot, but was slow about it.

FS now

And Wolves PK only moments after they blew PP opportunities.

Wolves PK looks bad, but also Hogs PP has been awesome lately

Allen big save

And another big save

FS now

Wolves have only 2 shots on goal halfway through the 1st

Bolduc penalty...bad call

Wolves PK

This PK better for Wolves. Andronov and Aucoin worked hard. Chorney and Shields shifted well.

Porter and Longpre not as trustworthy on this particular PK. There are many of them per games.

And now Cannone and Hanson on this same PK not as good as others

Porter did create two SH opportunities on that PK, but was shaky in own end. He gets lucky with aggressive play and rushes the puck fairly okay.

Otherwise Porter's game translates much better at the NHL level.

FS now

Aucoin to a streaking Rattie but shoots straight into chest of LaBarbera

Wolves looking shaky in own end trying to advance puck. Hakanpaa made a poor pass in traffic while on the move. Went the other way and Allen had to make a save.

Wolves goal!

Longpre from Wannstrom and Fairchild
Wannstrom got his 5th point of the season

Wolves lead 1-0

Fairchild nice pass to spring Wannstromm for a 2 on 1 and he made nice pass to Longpre

Longpre got puck in deep again but missed

Hogs come back and score off rebound

Tied 1-1

Jaskin and Fairchild not back fast enough

Wolves PK

SH chance for Wolves Aucoin to Regner for good quick shot but saved

And another SH chance for Longpre

But right back down for Hogs PP chance

PK over and period over

Game summary
Allen seemed like he was off his game a touch the last few games. I forgot about the game today, so I am not sure how well he has played.

Seem like the Wolves also had a few games off after their dominant stretch.

2nd period

Wannstrom and Hanson trying to will their way in the o zone

Hogs breakout odd man rush but Jaskin got back for good stick check

Rattie looking very good to start the 2nd period with 2 strong plays on same shift

I sure like Andronov's energy

Finally! The refs made a good non-call!

Wannstrom looking real good right now. Playing with Hanson and Longpre.

Hanson made great play in neutral zone to keep puck and get it in for great chance by Wannstrom

LaBarbera had to be sharp.

Again LaBarbera had to be sharp with Jaskin bearing down on him

Mancari bonehead play in own zone. Passed to a covered Fairchild at the left point and it goes down the ice. Bad play by Mancari.

Fairchild is not big at all, but he typically appears taller than he is. Tonight he just looks short. He seems quicker, though.

Halfway through 2nd period

Rattie good job to gain zone and passed to the slot from LW. He should have held onto the puck a little longer

Andronov looking very good in o zone with nice play to get puck off wall and back to Fairchild for some action.

Same for Kattelus. I like his game. It's energetic. He and Andronov play well together.

Shields good good shot

Jaskin took puck in and Peckham mad handled him to the ice. Nice play Theo

Wolves pressing hard and Hogs players are playing well in front of LaBarbera
Bolduc and Mancari up to their old antics with Porter instead of Locke, who is scratched.

Versatile line. Bolduc and Porter can center or wing it

Regner has had a decent game

Oh! Wannstrom has puck low and gets puck to Longpre in low slot who shot wide. Dang!

And then Wannstrom came out front for a weak shot.

Bolduc so good on faceoffs. It's too bad he's had some bad injuries. Shoulders and ankle

Getting chippy. Hogs' Clendening getting a little miffed.

End of 2nd period

Still tied 1-1

Allen 14 saves and Wolves with 25 shots

Looks like the Blues are getting beat bad.

Lately I have not been watching games consistently, so my observations are limited regarding any specific player, especially Allen.

Just to clarify, I just meant Allen is human. He seems to be playing pretty well tonight, but his defense has not been kind on the goals against.

3rd period

Already 7 minutes into it.

Bulgogi took priority

Still tied 1-1

Allen made dangerous play. Came way out of net but puck was knocked away and Chorney had to save a weak shot

Jaskin from Rattie in front but couldn't handle it

Hogs in 2 on 1 and barely missed the pass

Bolduc causing major problems in front of LaBarbera with multiple chances

Next shift Andronov worked hard for opportunity. Looked like he was out there with Cannone and Kattelus.

Hanson good hand eye coordination to keep puck in o zone

Hogs got in front but Hakanpaa was covering his man tightly and blocked a shot.

Wolves goal!

Rattie's 13th from Jaskin and Chorney

Jaskin shot it hard from high slot after working hard to create shot and Rattie perfectly deflected it.

Wolves lead 2-1 with 7 minutes left in game

Hogs pressing but good D by Wolves.

Back the other way and Cannone good chance on LaBarbera

Hanson split the D for a chance alone but saved glove side

Dangerous bouncing puck on Allen and he played it well

Nice crowd tonight at the AllState Arena

Great shot off faceoff by Hogs. Allen good save

Wow! Andronov with an amazing shift

Oh no!

2 minutes left and Wolves PK

Porter good on PK, then Longpre came on PK for good shift, but Aucoin on too long. Luckily puck was cleared so he could exit

Empty net 6 on 4

Good job Wolves! Nice clearing play

Hogs back in though and bad angle shot but good shot and good Allen save.

Oh! Backhand attempt and Allen swung out left leg for great save with 20 seconds left

PP over but empty net still

Hogs good chances in last 15 seconds

Wolves win 2-1

Jaskin with an awesome power move to the center of the ice followed by a well placed shot and tipped in by Rattie! Really fun play to watch.

I really like how Rattie and Jaskin step up their play in the third. I wish they would get going earlier in the game more often, but they do show up when the game is on the line.

Allen with huge saves to maintain the Wolves lead and eventual win.

What I can say about Allen is that he is a cool-headed dude, but kind of an airhead sometimes. Ironically, being an airhead is probably a good thing for a goalie because he doesn't seem to be bothered by too much.

He gets out of position sometimes, but has excellent vision and the quickness to cover most of his mistakes.

Kind of a space cadet at times.

That seems to be a good read on Allen.

He does have few of those lasting air head moments. It seems like something close to an 90% of the time he is on his game type situation. There are a few times each game where he is out of position and recovers pretty quickly. I just hope his recovery time is fast enough for the NHL. If it is then we have a pretty decent goalie of the future.

As I haven't seen anyone add this and some may be wondering, Edmundson has a "upper body injury" and is not playing for that reason.

Wolves at Utica Comets (affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks)

Allen is in
Eriksson is in for Utica

2011 1st round pick by the Canucks, Niklas Jensen, is in" he played for the Wolves last seson

Wannstrom started a good transition out of own one at FS. He got it to Hanson who got it to Chorney at opposite blue line, but Chorney gained the o zone and turned it over.

Allen has a few good saves. One great one.

Allen just had a big save with his glove while stretching to his left and going down.

Huge save!

Utica PP

Good eyes Allen

Delayed penalty on Comets, but Porter, with empty net, sent puck all the way back into Wolves territory. Bad bad bad move. That is how both Chicago teams have scored own-goals recently

Vancouver Canucks' HF Board prospects ticker includes three players on the Comets' roster tonight.

G Joachim Eriksson 7th-rounder, 2008 Philadelphia Flyers
RW Niklas Jensen
D Jake Corrado 5th-rounder 2011

D Kent Huskins is in and so our old friend Pascal Pelletier.

End of 1st period 0-0

2nd period

Prter almost a goal

And later Rattie scores! He tipped down a Chorney shot.
Excellent tip by Rattie. His 14th goal from Chorney

Wolves lead 1-0

Edmundson out. Still hurt, like audad79 posted

Utica PP

Aucoin on a break without speed SH and shot from far away. Saved

Chorney does great job of opening up his hips once he gains the o zone

Wolves in and cycling nicely. Cannone and Davies doing decent job of trying to connect passes, but getting back to the point when in trouble at FS.

Hakanpaa shot it but it was meant to be a tip attempt, I think, and the Wolves fwd down low missed the opportunity. I don't think Hakanpaa meant to shoot it on net but to get it down low for a deflection of some type.

I don't care

I love it

Rattie just missed Aucoin in front

Jaskin close to Rattie

Wolves pressing hard on PP!
Eriksson has to be sharp and he is!

Chorney hits post

Aucoin terrible handle of pass in o zone during PP

Jaskin is in down low and tries stuff attempt but saved

Partial break by Comets fwd but Oberg did get piece of it and Allen had good vision of slow shot

A whole lot just happened and the Wolves announcers said absolutely nothing! No exaggeration!

They said nothing until Allen saved a great chance but the Comets!

Okay...so the microphone was temporarily out

Andronov down low and could not finish but Eriksson was darn good

Nucks' former 1st rounder, Jensen scored a nice turnaround shot in mid slot

Tied 1-1

To Allen's blocker side, high.

Rattie in with partial break and he fell...kinda

Gotta go............

If Allen's stats mean anything, it at least shows consistency and that's something we could really use in net.

AHL trade sent Corey Locke to Abbotsford and our old friend Mark Cundari to the Wolves. Pretty funny that even after the trade he's still ending up with our affiliate, where he would have been anyway.

So Bouwmeester for Berra and Poirier then...a great trade with a little salt in the eyes now for Calgary

Jaskin has been playing well recently based on his stats. I don't quite know if he's ready to step into a full-time top 9 role on the Blues, but his progression as a player is impressive.

I've watched Jaskin play at least 15 times this season. To me, he appeared ready for the NHL early in the Wolves' season (after he returned from injury), but I thought that perhaps my enthusiasm was a little premature.

Alas, Jaskin continued to impress and has continued to look NHL-ready. I am completely convinced that Jaskin can step in right now and replace Stewart, who cannot be disposed of soon enough.
