He's an absolute monster at the AHL level. I'm really excited to see what he can do if he improves his skating.

Allen made a game-saving save, and we go to overtime.

Wolves lose 4=3 in OT, and are down 3 games to 0.

And in Game 4 the Wolves get shutout 4-0, Allen 25 saves giving up 3 goals.

Bad defense in playoffs and it has been mediocre to bad all year. I have written many times this season of in-game rushes up and down the ice. That usually indicates poor defense, not great offense.

They had great offensive depth on offense but only great forward in the playoffs; Jaskin. Rattie was easily marginalized.

I figured Rattie might be neutralized pretty easily this being his first season. I was actually hoping that Wannstrom might start showing what he was capable of. Oh well.

Rattie was easily marginalized earlier in the season, but found a way of adjusting his game at the pro level by getting out of the corners and playing positionally-sound hockey. That way he would be in the right places for shots or to receive the puck.

But as we know in the playoffs, good defense is even more concentrated and Rattie was most certainly a key to Toronto's defensive plan.

Coach Anderson should not have played Shields after being off for so long with injury and then healthy scratches. Poor personnel decision to play Shields.

Thanks for the heads up. Also, I saw on the NHL Network ticker that Adam Cracknell signed with the LA Kings.

2014-2015 AHL Contracts Thread

The first post is updated often with new AHL signings.
The second post is all about each team's FAs and where they go.

Right now the only two players that the Chicago Wolves have signed to AHL contracts are D-Jake Chelios and G-Matt Climie.

STL boy F-Michael Davies signed in Germany; good move by him. He's got skill.

D-Taylor Chorney was signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins, so he is gone. He was on an NHL contract last season anyway.

D-Brent Regner was on an AHL contract, but is now on a one-year, NHL, two-way contract and will be RFA after next season.

F-Adam Cracknell signed with LA Kings.

F-Alexandre Bolduc signed with the Arizona Coyotes. That is a big loss for the Wolves, imo.

D-Mark Cundari was traded during the season, but then loaned to the Wolves for much of the regular season and playoffs. He is Calgary Flames property.

D-Joe Corvo; Have no idea what his status is.

F-Keith Aucoin has signed with HC Ambrì-Piotta in Switzerland.

Other Wolves' FAs who played a lot this past season

Forwards:
Shane Harper
Nathan Longpre
Harper is expendable and Longpre is less skilled, but more versatile, so I would keep Longpre.

Defenseman:
Evan Oberg.
Oberg is decent enough to keep and probably should be re-signed.

Other FAs who had tiny roles

Forwards:
Derek Nesbitt (talented AHL journeyman, so who knows)
Eric Kattelus (mostly played for K-Zoo last season and did well; has skill, but caught by depth chart; should be re-signed, imo)
Gergo Nagy (played only two games at the end of the season, so who knows)

Defensemen:
Henrik Odegaard (signed to play in Norway)
Doug Janik (signed late in season to provide depth; older AHL D-man; should be re-signed, imo)

--------------

So!

As of right now the Chicago Wolves have only two players on the roster who are on AHL-only contracts.
D-Jake Chelios (one year)
G-Matt Climie (second of two-year)

Probable/possible Wolves players on NHL contracts

Forwards with two years left on ELC:
Ty Rattie
Dimitrij Jaskin
Yannick Veilleux
Ryan Tesink
Jacob Doty

Forwards with three years left on ELC:
Zach Pochiro

Defensemen with two years left on ELC:
Jani Hakanpaa
Joel Edmundson

Defensemen with three years left on ELC:
Tommy Vannelli
Petteri Lindbohm

Other NHL signings--non-ELCs

Forwards:
Pat Cannone (one year-UFA)
John McCarthy (one year-UFA)
Sebastian Wannstrom (one year-RFA)
Cody Beach (one year-RFA)
Phil McRae (one year-RFA)

Defensemen:
Brent Regner (one year-RFA)
David Shields (one year-RFA)

Goalies:
Jordan Binnington (two years left on ELC)
Niklas Lundstrom (two years left on ELC; almost no way that Lundstrom plays in Chicago next season)

----

F-Sergey Andronov was offered a one-year, two-way contract, but he has not signed it. I hope he does.

Others not offered a contract (yet)

Forwards:
Tyler Shattock (not vital to future Blues plans, but is on a Cracknell-like trajectory)
Eric Selleck (expendable enforcer type)
Christian Hanson (he showed me way more than I thought he had)

Defensemen:
Brett Ponich (he was in K-Zoo for most of the season and and did okay; the little I saw of him with the Wolves he was decent one game and terrible the next and not as bad of a skater as advertised; he has that lumbering, uncoordinated style just like Hakanpaa, but Jani at least has some quickness to his game and higher "hockey IQ")

EDIT:

The Blues have five or six contracts available to offer under current CBA rules. I want to say that it is six with one of them being offered to Andronov.

I would expect the other five to go to recent draftees and/or AHL veteran-types. D-Santeri Saari will play for Jokerit, which is now in the KHL. Doubtful he would be offered and sign a NHL contract. Saari needs more development anyway. I could see G-Francois Tremblay being offered an ELC this summer. He could play for K-Zoo. It's about time for him to graduate from juniors. Also, D-Nick Walters needs to move up. I wonder if he will be offered an ELC. How about D-Jordan Schmaltz? I see D-Colton Parayko staying in college one more season.

Chicago Wolves renew affiliation with the Missouri Mavericks of the CHL.

link

-------------

Also, the AHL will have new overtime rules.

link

OT will be seven minutes with at least the first four minutes of OT being 4-on-4. After that OT becomes 3-on-3.

Check the link for other details.

wonder if that means possible affiliation for the blues/mavericks? i know they're affiliated with the chill, and they're both in the chl, but would it be possible for the blues to affiliate with both?

I think the Chill have been put in the deep freeze.

From their website: http://www.stcharleschill.com/home/

"Thank you fans for your support of the St. Charles Chill. The Chill has ceased business operations effective immediately and is actively pursuing local ownership in hopes to keep hockey in St Charles"

I'm glad they're going to try out this OT system. I'd like to see the NHL end up doing something like that, and less shoot-outs.

I'm kind of "meh" about the OT change. I don't like ties, I don't like the shoot out, and I don't like 3 on 3 lol. 3 on 3 sounds so gimmicky to me, but it might be kind of exciting. At least it's actual team hockey unlike the shoot out. I guess I'll have to see it happen in practice to form a full opinion. The fighting rule is absolutely absurd though. Just get rid of fighting all together rather than this two strikes an you're out garbage.

I can't recall offhand which game, but there was an instance of prolonged 3 on 3 in an NHL game this year and it was gripping. It totally changed my opinion on this proposal.

If you are playing 3 on 3 in OT, do you roll 2 D and a forward and play defense, going for the tie? Or do you roll 2 forwards and a D trying to score and get the extra point? Its not like 3 vs 3 in regulation where the main goal is to not give up a goal. I think 2 D and a forward vs 2 D and a forward would get boring unless the D were really jumping the play. Will be interesting to see how it works in practice.

Yeah I can see how it could be exciting, especially if it's like the Avs vs. Hawks. Toews-Kane-Keith on the ice against Duchene-Mackinnon-Barrie would be something to behold. I'm warming up to the idea the more I think about it, but I still think it's a bit gimmicky.

just curious, but if any of you attended a game or watched one, how did defensemen like hakanpaa and edmundson perform?
