He doesn't particularly have a good shot (like a Zlobin), and he doesn't seem to have the will or determination to be great. He seems happy to be just one of the guys. I'd bet his ceiling is 20 goals and maybe 50 points would be his high in the NHL. Not terrible, but he's more Zubrus than he is Ovechkin.
he's played 4 games in the ahl...i'm gonna wait before i pass judgment..if he turns out to be zubrus i'd be more than happy with that

Again, the bottom line is he is NOT NHL ready. He is skilled, but is flawed and needs more time with less pressure to develop. That's all. People see stat lines and so 'yeah, he's amazing, 1st line Mike Gartner!' - Come on, the Isles need to let this develop in the "A" until he is comfortable with his game and body. People saw flashed of brillance in Bailey's passes in his rookie year. Years later, the team and its fans are waiting to see that consistently.

Hamonic - looked smooth, calculated, and savvy - qualities of an NHL player. Nelson, looked similar w/o having NHL games.
bro i have been to every home game..my opinions on sound tigers players are never based on stat sheets or you tube clips they are based on my what my eyes tell me. considering where he was last year and where he is now i'm excited..if you notice he isn't scoring pretty goals..there actually quit ugly..that is what has me excited...his willingness to crash the net and get his nose dirty. you can nit pick every player on the roster..hamonic has struggled at times..ulmstrom is finally finding his way..its a marathon not a sprint

Obviously the AHL is not the NHL, but that doesn't mean it isn't a tough league to play in. Especially for a 20 year old kid. Nino needs to refine parts of his game, I'm sure no one would argue that, but to not be impressed with his play thus far(especially after all the "bust" talk this offseason) just comes off as extreme nitpicking. No offense, just my opinion.
He's scoring at a 50 goal pace, even if you include the AHL games last year. There's a lot to be thankful for with the way Nino's picked up his offense after a disaster NHL season. If blitzkriegs sees a player that is still raw and unpolished, that still has much to learn with or without the puck, that still doesn't have his man strength, that would not surprise me. Niño looked extremely raw last year too, I don't expect him to be that much better over a few months.

But I never doubted Niño would play in the NHL and have a nice career. He's got too many tools, NHL size and hands, great shot, great work ethic, plays a tough style - perfect NHL player IF he can develop and improve.

Let's enjoy the ride and hope he keeps improving. But I will agree that great stats doesn't necessarily mean great player.

I have been very unimpressed with KK since he was drafted but he was a completely different player in the Memorial Cup and was excellent in the AHL before he got hurt. He's got a ways to go but I'm optimistic. He's got some nice wheels, great hands, good vision, okay shot, he's got offensive instincts. He has truly developed a good work ethic on the ice, pretty good along the boards too - seems to be learning to play an NHL game.

A lot to be optimistic with KK, for sure. Hopefully he recovers from the ugly arm injury and doesn't lose much needed mobility and strength.

As pessimistic as I've been with this team, since the 80's and definitely since the SnowJob faux rebuild, I'm starting to see some real potential with these prospects. Specifically Cizikas, Strome, Niño, Nelson, Kabanov, deHaan, Donovan, Reinhart, Pelech, Poulin, Nilsson and more.

Agreed man.. I'm not looking for Ovechkin play from him I'm just looking for him to produce. Some people forget we only spent a third round pick on him give him some time.

Just couldn't get anything going tonight. They had a tough time generating any dangerous chances over the last 25 minutes.

Can't win them all. Bound to have bad games here and there, a 10-5 record is still awesome.

How dare you be rational after a loss.

BTW, the one positive out of yesterday's game was Nino extending his point streak. The guy's been awesome.

Someone should post details on each game like post-GDT we do for the Isles.

Anyone going to the game tomorrow? They play the Rangers affiliate if I'm not mistaken. Might take the ferry over with a buddy.

Gallant got the better of Haley. Good scrap and Haley was busted up, some blood above the eye.

After they went ahead 5-3, they basically stopped playing. They were the better team for the first 50 minutes though.

Sundstrom with the 2-1-3 is pretty impressive, although I might be more impressed with Donovan putting up a +3 in a game they lost 7-5. Can anyone tell me how he's looked so far this year?

Hopefully they can bounce back tonight.
