HF Mock Draft 15th Overall

greetings Islanders fans, I've thought a cool idea for this draft would be to do a mock draft by going through each team forum in order of there pick in the first round and poll who they would take. whoever gets the most votes gets picked. and is taken off the list for the next team. with the 14th overall pick the Blue Jackets took Horvat with the other results just below. I'm hoping that by going through each team's forum I would get a better idea of who there team might select since those fans should know the most about there teams, so given the circumstances who would the Islanders select 15th overall?

Picks so Far:

Avalanche: Seth Jones
Panthers: Nathan Mackinnon
Lightning: Jonathon Drouin
Predators: Aleksander Barkov
Hurricanes: Sean Monahan
Flames: Elias Lindholm
Oilers: Valeri Nichushkin
Sabres: Rasmus Ristolainen
Devils: Hunter Shinkaruk
Stars: Alexander Wennberg
Flyers: Darnell Nurse
Coyotes: Max Domi
Jets: Frederik Gauthier
BlueJackets: Bo Horvat

after I go through all 30 picks of the first round I will post the results in the prospect section.

I also ask that I'm looking to poll Islanders fans so if your not a Islanders fan and just browsing I ask that you refrain from voting thanks.

also Mods I realize you guys have a prospects thread but this type of thing needs to be done in a poll so I ask that you don't delete/merge the thread to allow me to continue thanks

I would go with Curtis Lazar. Lazar seems like somebody like a hybrid Ryan Callahan/Mike Richards type of player. Not sure he has the offensive upside of some other players on the board but he is the safe pick.

Really tough to pass up Zarodov(although my negative for him is I think he is 5-6 years away from hitting his stride, basically he will be one of those guys 5 years from now will rank lower on 2013 "redrafts" but 10 years from now rank higher). I would also be more inclined to pick him up if he was a right handed shot instead of left

I love this draft. Coming out of it with Lazar or Zadorov would be amazing. Pulock or Mantha would be great too.

I like a bunch of the players still on the board but if the draft actually happened as posted above, Nikita Zadorov at #15 would be a godsend. I don't think it will happen, but even in a mock draft it's fun to see him picked at 15!

Agreed, I voted for Zadorov also. Snow seems to love big, mobile, and physical defenseman. If Reinhart and Mayfield pan out with Zadorov... no one is going to want to play us. Of course Hamonic will anchor the blue line. Pedan is a darkhorse and Pokka projects as an offensive guy. Donovan and CDH as possible puck movers.

Everyone in the league seems to be looking for d-men, we'd be stacked and cost controlled for a long while.

I voted for Zadorov, as well, even though I am almost always a "draft a forward" person. I like Domi and Horvat, but I am not sure they'll be there.

I went with Zykov, who I like a bit more than a few who got taken earlier (Gauthier, who reminds me of Kvasha with his size and erratic work ethic, or Wennberg, who reminds me of Franz Neilsen). Lazar souns like he'll be a good 3rd line character center. Zadarov would have been fine before we drafted a half dozen of him the last two drafts. Zykov is a right handed RW with good size, physical, good speed, good shot, hard to knock off the puck, sounds like he fills a need. I guess I wouldn't be disappointed with the other top candidates, maybe someone like Shinkaruk falls to us, but we're not picking 5th any more, we'll have to be happy with however we get (Garth's team has been excellent at pulling diamonds in the rough, though the bottom four picks in the last draft look like real long shots).

I never heard anything negative about Gauthier's work ethic, I think you mean Mantha

went with lazar, but honestly would be happy with any one of him, pulock or zadorov. i'd be a bit worried picking gauthier or mantha(moreso with mantha due to the reports of consistency issues). would be somewhat disappointed if fucale is the pick.

Gauthier 'reminds' you of kvasha? Wennberg 'reminds' you of Nielsen? Just curious have you seen either of them play that calls for these comparisons or are you just going off of scouting reports?

Wennberg I know very little about, saw him twice. I liked him though.

As for Gauthier, I have seen him play quite a bit. Nothing about him or his game reminds me of Kvasha. Actually he looks like a super-sized Patrice Bergeron to me. Really good player in all zones and can skate for a big man, smart, and can be a shutdown Centerman and has good hands to boot. Probably wouldn't take long to develop either as his body is petty much NHL ready.

As far as the Islanders drafting a half dozen Zadorovs the last few years? I wish. I'm high on a lot of Islander Defense prospects but I can assure you there isn't a Zadorov in the bunch.

Would like to see Ryan Hartman be the pick. 15 might be a bit early for him but I love what he brings to the table. He's a guy that brings loads of grit but can still play in your top 6. Would be a great fit on this team IMO.

Can you imagine a d-pair of Zadorov and Reinhart...two monster defensemen who can actually skate and move the puck well unlike some other hulking defenseman we have *cough *cough Joe Finley.

Went with Lazar, who could provide a Ryan Callahan presence...

Don't see a Kvasha in Gauthier either. More like Hanzal with more offense or even prime Michal Handzus...

Mantha is intriguing, he might suffer from Brandon Saad "syndrome", whose consistency and work ethic were questioned big time and caused his fall. Well, the rest is history...

Went with Zadorav but wouldn't be mad if we opted for Domi either (although I think some team falls in love with Domi between 11-13 and takes him or trades up over us to get him)

Voted Zadorov but in this draft I wouldn'tbe surprised to see Snow move down a few spots to aquire a 2nd round pick and take a goalie there. It all depends on who is on the board though

Going under the assumption San Jose and the Rangers lose(but Detroit wins), San Jose will pick 19th(could be 20th if Detroit loses) and has 2 second rounders(there own and the Rangers which would be 48th and 49th)

I actually wouldn't mind a trade down of 15th for 19th and 49th if they really wanted Fucale. Hell at 19th they might even still be able to get a Guy like Mantha or Pulock

Adam Erne who could be a bigger (6'1", 196), faster,, more skilled Casey Cizikas. Plays either wing.

Zadorov would be a great pick at 15, but I wouldn't be upset at all if Lazar was the pick!!

Yeah Mantha's consistency issues led to him being the ONLY draft prospect to score 50 goals. After watching Crosby and Malkin dominate these playoffs, I wouldn't mind a 6'4" player who can skate AND score being our pick. Not saying he's Malkin, but we've never had a large goal scorer.

Like a lemming, I followed the crowd and voted for Zadorov

Unlike past seasons, I haven't closely followed scouting reports or tsn's draft center.
I'll be happy if Snow comes out of round one, saying their choice was BPA.

I said before Mantha's reports remind me of Steve Bernier who I wanted the Islanders to draft in 2003. Now Bernier probably would have been a better pick for us then who we did take(Nilsson), but given some of the guys we passed on we could have done better.

Mantha to me is a swing for the fences type of pick. He is either going to be real good or his goal scoring ability won't translate and he will be useless. At 15 that scares me but if we trade down 4-5 spots it's worth the risk
