When we were all kids, institutions like MNF and the Rose Bowl were frequently on ABC Sports, a legendary sports department of OTA television. Now the major ABC Sports events have largely been shifted over to ESPN, destroying the fabric we grew up with.

The alleged defense of the shift is for "television ratings", as somehow the 18+ demographic viewership is increased when the games are on cable instead of OTA. But, when you've been looking at the Nielsen ratings as long as I have, you notice that OTA ratings have always been better than cable ratings, since OTA is more prevalent and reaches more television sets than cable.

In a world where more and more people cut cable out of their life, and see cable as more of a luxury than a necessity, the move of major events to cable is quite mind-boggling.
Man, I so agree with you. I used to be able to see all the bowl games on New Years day, watching 12 straight hours of football. Today, I got one game so far, the Georgia Nebraska game. Hoping for another one tonight, I might have to watch it in french on RDS. Thankfully, Notre-Dame is on NBC.

If First Row didn't exist, I'd be so mad.

They can hide all the game they want on cable but the streams will always be up

Notre Dame-Alabama is not on NBC, it's on ESPN.

I am again reminded as my days as a youth when I would watch Keith Jackson on ABC call the championship games. I guess most of my complaints are about the loss of the old days, when sports on OTA TV were a lot more prevalent than they are today. I simply don't understand why they are moving games to ESPN. I just don't.

I hope not. Notre Dame has a broadcasting contract with NBC and they're the home team in the BCS.

No, they're not, the game is at a neutral site and home/away is a meaningless award based on #1 and #2 ranking. Not on NBC, who does not carry any bowl games since dropping the Gator Bowl.

The game is on ESPN just like any other championship game in the near future

Damn. I guess it'll be firstrowsports then, unless RDS is showing it.

Oh joy, Tessitore and Millen for NIU/FSU Orange Bowl. Might've been smart for another major sport to plan an event to go up against that.
