I have two now actually. It's pretty nice since I get one of the bathrooms all to myself instead of having to share. But then I'm also the designated house spider assassin and maxipad/ice cream delivery boy during those special times of the month. So that sucks.
Gameplay is very unforgiving and raw, definitely a k/m game. The soundtrack ties the whole thing together, it feels like you are just emerging from a shower on 10 hits of acid covered in terpentine and now you have to kill stuff.

Is it actually scary? Like really scary? Not just loud noises scary?
Some people would probably say so, yeah. I'm not one of them. It takes a lot to actually scare me though. That said, it's completely ****ing twisted and creepy as hell. Great writing and acting. Highly recommend watching both seasons if you haven't.

It has a lot of jump scares and a lot of really well done/placed gore/makeup work. I like it a lot as well (I always wait till its all over and marathon it)
It also has great tones and timing.
