Imagine all the people buying tickets to see John Lannan pitch?

when it comes to pitching, lannan is less an "ace" and more a "four of clubs".

I'd take him. He's no great shakes, but he'd eat some innings. He's been an average pitcher throughout his career, and the Sox have proven they can win ballgames with average pitching.

I would have no problem with Lannan somewhere in the lower middle of our rotation. He's a much better option than Lackey, and that means he'd probably win the starting job here in a fair competition easily enough.

Which is irrelevant. What part of scooping up Lannan on a cheap deal would stop us going after any aces that happen to magically become available?

Besides which, show me one ace pitcher on the market. No, Zack Greinke is not an ace, and he's the closest there is out there right now. Don't set your standards so high that it prevents you from being intelligent about the options you do have.

I'm bewildered what this has to do with John Lackey. Lackey is not an average pitcher. He was an ace, and then he got hurt and sucked.

The one year John Lackey gave us average production in 2010, he won 15 games.

That's why I said the Nats former ace. He's not a top 3 pitcher in the rotation, but he was technically their 'ace.' Anyways, he would be a decent 5th starter. Won't cost much.

I remember that too. *Shudders*

I'd rather they finish under .500 with a bunch of hard playing kids than to see them do the same thing with aging overpriced & underperforming crap.

Matt freaking Young....ugh. Thanks a lot DKH now I'll have nightmares about him for the next week or so

I'd like to see him healthy and see how it goes but damn. How sad is that? But Wilson NEEDS to come here. His intensity. His pitching. His BEARD. Oh man. He'd be loved here. Really hoping that works out.

Still hoping we sign Hamilton. But I know its not going to happen.

I hope the Sox stay the hell away from him. For one thing he wants way too much $$ for way too much time given his age [32] and his production has started to decline. Plus the fact that he has struggled to get & stay sober in a relatively quiet city like Arlington Texas. Imagine the difficulty he'd have in a baseball crazy place like Boston where everthing he said/did would be dissected endlessly. IMO the only place worse for Hamilton than Boston would be New York. This goes for Zach Greinke too although his problems are different than Hamilton's.

Angels acquire Tommy Hanson from the Braves for Jordan Walden.

I don't think Hanson is anything special but they shouldn't trade a decent, young SP for a decent, young RP....even if they do have a boatload of pitching prospects coming up.

Q: Is any thought being given to deal in a more straightforward manner with the sell-out streak and to consider using “Sweet Caroline” in a more limited fashion?

Lucchino: “The fans started this sell-out streak in 2003 and will end it. This argument over definitions is a little silly in my opinion. No matter how you slice it, we’ve averaged over 37,000 fans per game over the last ten years. That is an impressive expression of passion and commitment by our fans!”
