Reassigned: D Ringwald #6 (Stockton)

CHECKERS:
TBD
Roster

Who to watch?BARONS TO WATCH: Rookie defenseman Martin Marincin has 4 points in his last 4 games (1-3-4) and has had a very respectable 8 points in 14 games this season. Yann Danis will need to be much better than his .909 save % to date against the leagues top offensive team and the team with the best goal differential in the Western Conference.

CHECKERS TO WATCH: The Checkers have the 2nd and 15th highest scoring D in the league in NHLer Justin Faulk and Bobby Sanguinetti. The Checkers are a very deep team with 8 players with 10 or more points and two more with 9 points. Marc-Andre Gragnani has also been close to a point/game on the blueline albeit in 11 games. Former Oilers prospect Riley Nash will be facing the player who was taken with the pick that the Oilers acquired for his rights at the 2010 draft for the first time tonight (Marincin). Goalie Dan Ellis has been nothing short of phenomenal for the Checkers with a 0.948 save % in 9 games. The Checkers are likely the best team that the Barons have faced to date as they have a total of 9 players who are at least a +5 on the season. The Checkers PP is 1st in the league and their pk is 7th, they are a strong and well balanced team who can beat you at ES or on special teams.

Barons Number of the DayThe number of the day is 8 as in these next 2 games against Charlotte could amount to an 8 point swing in the standings if one of the teams wins both games in regulation. With a pair of Barons regulation wins they would be 2 points back of Charlotte for the top spot in the South Division, while if they lose both in regulation they would be 10 points back of a very strong Charlotte team.

Quotable"We're going to need everybody to tug on the rope because Charlotte's playing good hockey. They're a good hockey team and we can't afford to have any kind of lapses. We need to play 60 minutes (both nights) and play it well. We're getting better and better every game in certain areas and hopefully in a few months we can put the package all together and be a 'well oiled machine' -- no pun intended."-Coach Todd Nelson on what he thinks it'll take to beat the top team in the west the Charlotte Checkers.

Looking forward to seeing what Rajala can do in his 2nd outing.

Maybe it's just my lack of watching enough Barons hockey... but as far as forward prospects go... Rajala to me looks like he just might be able to make a case for the most promising forward prospect on the Barons outside of Hartikainen and MPS.

That's kind of a sad state of affairs actually as the forward prospect cupboard is looking a little bare down there.

I haven't given up on guys like Hamilton/Pitlick/Martindale/Lander... etc but they certainly don't look to be blowing anyone away with their performances at the AHL level at this stage.

Honestly, it sucks that Pitlick has the statline he has. I really thought he looked great many nights but the points just weren't coming. 'Tis a shame.

As for the game...the Barons gotta stay out of the box but we should realistically expect to see a couple of dumb penalties by Teubert and Plante.

I agree. You'd swear you're talking about 2 different Pitlicks when you watch him play and then look at the points he's producing

Admittedly I haven't followed the games this year apart from game reports and the occasional article/blog/report but I got the impression that Lander had been playing quite well the last couple of games (after a slow start to the season)?

Nice to see Marincin have his offense translate to the next level so far. It would be great if he could develop into a top 4 guy who can put up some points.

The Canes farm team has a pretty good record. Any Canes fans wanna fill us in on who to look out for?

He doesn't have good hockey sense. Too bad, because the tools are there.

I've always thought of him as a skilled checker. If he can simplify his game and buy into a good system he will be an effective third line NHL player IMHO.

IMO we are a better 2C and a big winger or two in the top 6 away from having an exceptional top 6 so we'll need those solid 3rd/4th line guys to help round out the club.

i've always thought that marincin was a boom/bust guy, many others have said the same thing... his early pro success has been pretty encouraging, but i think we have to temper our expectations with him due to him playing with schultz.... remember MAB looked like an all-star playing with pronger afterall

that being said, marincin has looked good so far... he makes a fairly regular mental gaffe, but that is to be expected of a 20 year old defenseman... another year or two in the AHL and he could be ready for the show on the 3rd pairing... he definitely has the best chance of making it outside of kelfbom... i guess musil might have something to say about that as well, but i would still lean towards marincin because of his size and two-way play (musil being more of a stay-at-home guy)

yeah he has all the physical tools all right, but just seems incapable of putting up points... he could still be a 4th line energy winger one day, but it is VERY clear that he will never play on a skilled line in the NHL

It's a little early to say that. He just turned 21. That said, he definitely needs to start producing

It's kind of weird that Skinner isn't playing hockey anywhere. Not that Charlotte really needs him.

To add insult they just announced two more AHL games on their schedule, Dec 1, Dec 8, and both are Toronto Marlies vs Rochester Americans

Anything outside of Toronto doesn't exist.

jebus, is there any reason more AHL games can't be televised?

ps

This is going to be one of those tough games for the Barons. It'll be interesting to see how they respond. Need to bring a better effort tonight.

Sounds like Hall is injured and is a late scratch.

The announcers just said that Hall isn't playing tonight and they don't know why.

Probably because we play back-to-back. Originally Nelson said they weren't going to play Hall on back-to-backs for the first little bit but it seems like it's been largely ignored for the most part.

edit: Announcers are wrong, Halls in.

It would be nice if they moved Rajala up to the top line just to see what he looks like playing with some really talented players.

Oh, scratch that - they just announced Hall IS playing.
