Is it only me who wonders why CBC or TSN don't sign a deal for 1 nationaly televised CHL game per week?

network wins, fans win, CHLgain exposure and money.

Am I crazy?

I assume Sportsnet owns the CHL rights and therefore another network can't show a CHL game unless they were to work out a deal with Sportsnet. I doubt Sportsnet would be willing to do that, especially with the lockout.

At least in Ontario, Rogers cable owns the OHL broadcast rights. On top of letting Sportsnet(owned by Rogers) do the Friday night hockey, there is a Digital OHL Action Pack(think Centre Ice for the OHL).

Rogers probably has an agreement with with Q and WHL regional cable companies to show the games on Sportsnet.

No way Roger lets a rival like the CBC or TSN(owned by CTV) broadcast CHL games.

IMHO....Rogers would be foolish not to let a big network broadcast the games. Nothing wrong in letting a competitor broadcast your product (short term) for your long term gain!

But why would they let TSN or CBC broadcast games when they have the capacity to reach a national Audience on their own Sportsnet Channels?

They plan on doing a game every friday, what games would CBC or TSN care to broadcast that wont run as competition to the Sportsnet game? Sunday or mid week games would draw considerably fewer viewers, theres a reason why Sportsnet has the Friday game of the week, and usually a sunday game every now and then.

I doubt TSN or CBC wastes the resources to market the games they got on their channels, only to have a couple, non peak games, likely dictated and decided by Sportsnet, when the NHL could come back at any time.

If they want to do it, they have to make a long term commitment to it, its not as easy as just sending a television crew. You need commentators, the television crew and fully staffed truck, commericals lined up, commercials to advertise what you're showing, etc etc. It works for Sportsnet because they do it all year each season.

I wish they would. CHL on TSN would be great.

Yeah Sportsnet owns the CHL rights. Even though Sportsnet and TSN are under the same umbrella (Bell) and it looked like cooperated during the Olympics, they rarely share boardcast rights.

As for CBC and Sportsnet, forget it. Sportsnet/TSN/RDS aren't aloud to use any footage from the 1998 through 2006 Olympics because CBC did them and the two companies (CTV and CBC) don't work well together at all.

Sportsnet and TSN are most certainly not under the same umbrella. Sportsnet is owned by Rogers and TSN by Bell. Even though they teamed up to buy MLSE, they are still fierce rivals. Rogers objected to Bell's purchase of Astral.
